Protecting children cannot end at the school gate. It requires stronger policies, well-resourced schools, safeguarding systems that work, and communities willing to reject violence in all its forms.

Nearly 4 in 10 boys and 3 in 10 girls in Kenya have experienced school-related physical and/or sexual violence according to the 2019 Violence Against Children Survey (VACS).
That is unacceptable.
We recently engaged Members of @NAssemblyKE to advocate for stronger child wellbeing provisions in the proposed amendments to the Basic Education Act, 2013, including safer learning environments, positive discipline, stronger safeguarding systems, and provision of school meals.
We also called for stronger recognition and resourcing of #APBET schools so that children learning in these settings are not left behind.

Today, survivors of the 2007–2008 post-election sexual violence stand before the Supreme Court, demanding what should never have been denied: justice, recognition, and reparations.
Justice cannot be selective. Every survivor deserves equal protection under the law, regardless of who committed the violence or whether they were able to report it during a time of fear and chaos.
At COVAW, we stand with the survivors in calling for an end to exclusion and a future where no survivor is left behind.

Women leaders, journalists, and activists in Kenya's digital spaces are facing a real threat: 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. It's the deliberate spread of lies, deepfakes, and manipulated content that weaponizes gender and identity to discredit, shame, and silence.
It shows up as fake explicit images and doctored videos, attacks on a person's character instead of their ideas, tired stereotypes painting women as too emotional or unfit to lead, and identity-based attacks that isolate targets from their own communities.
The goal isn't just to embarrass one person; it's to scare others into silence and keep women out of leadership altogether.
With support from @UNFPAKen through the Making All Spaces Safe Program, COVAW is pushing back: documenting cases, providing legal aid and psychosocial support to survivors, working with tech platforms for safer spaces, and equipping women with digital safety skills.
Together, we can reclaim our spaces. Report abuse. Demand accountability.
