Russia continues to violate human rights in its illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, including arbitrary detention, torture, enforced disappearances, sexual violence and repression. The 🇺🇳 has documented over 1,000 cases of sexual violence against civilians and prisoners of war in Ukraine. Today at the Third Committee, 🇮🇪 called on Russia to immediately cease its widespread violation of human rights in Ukraine, halt its war of aggression and abide by international obligations. Ireland stands with Ukraine. 🔗 ireland.ie/en/un/newyork/new…

Russia’s slaughter of innocent civilians in Kramatorsk and Priluki is totally reprehensible. Attacks on civilians are war crimes; those who ordered and committed these attacks must be held to account. Our thoughts are with those lost, their loved ones, and the people of Ukraine.

This morning, russians struck two passenger buses in Kramatorsk. Local authorities now report 30 people killed and 18 injured! People simply travelling through their city are now dead. Ukraine is in mourning. A day of mourning has been declared today for those killed in Pryluky in yesterday’s russian attack. On Putin’s birthday. 22 people killed. Five of them children. 54 people injured. All night, rescue crews cleared the rubble of their homes. All night, they searched for people. They kept finding bodies. Last night in Kyiv, a russian drone hit a block of flats. Two people were killed as they slept. Four more were hurt. This war never pauses. Not for grief. Not while families wait for news. Not while the dead are still being recovered from underneath the rubble. My heart is with the families and loved ones in Kramatorsk, Pryluky and Kyiv. 🇪🇺🤝🇺🇦

Welcome 🇪🇺 decision to extend sanctions on those behind Russia's hybrid attacks. Pressure is the only language Putin understands. 🔗link.europa.eu/NvyfWP
The EU has extended its sanctions in response to Russia's hybrid threats until 9 October 2027. The sanctions target those responsible for Russia's continued and intensified hybrid activities against the EU, its member states and its partners. More: link.europa.eu/NvyfWP

I was pleased to welcome the Prime Minister of Ireland, @MichealMartinTD, to Kyiv for our first meeting since I assumed the office of Prime Minister. Our discussions came on the day the European Union approved its 21st package of sanctions against Russia, an important decision that will further restrict the Kremlin's ability to finance its war against Ukraine. I thanked Ireland for its leadership in advancing these measures. Ireland currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and we highly value their contribution to opening Cluster 6, "External Relations," in Ukraine's EU accession negotiations. We count on Ireland's Presidency to help complete the opening of all remaining clusters and move swiftly toward the substantive stage of our accession process. We also placed particular emphasis on preparing for the coming winter, restoring energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks, and expanding the participation of Irish companies in Ukraine's reconstruction. Despite Russia's aggression, cooperation between our businesses continues to grow, creating new opportunities for both our countries. The people of Ireland have stood with Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale invasion. We deeply appreciate Ireland's unwavering solidarity, all the assistance it has provided, and its steadfast support for Ukraine's European future. Thank you to Prime Minister Micheál Martin, the Government of Ireland, and the people of Ireland for standing with Ukraine.

We truly value that during Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Taoiseach Micheál Martin @MichealMartinTD is with us, with Ukraine, that you're standing with Ukraine, seeing for yourself what's happening, and understanding what we need to defend ourselves and protect people's lives. Today we discussed the threats and challenges we face right now, as we approach the fall, when Putin is preparing new attacks against Ukraine, additional mobilization in Russia, and a further expansion of the war. It's important that today we have a decision on the European Union's new sanctions package against Russia. And I'm grateful to every European leader who made this possible. This is already the 21st package, and today Micheál assured me that he will work toward the 22nd. Now, during Ireland's Presidency of the EU, there are also decisions on the clusters for Ukraine. Two clusters have already been opened, and I am grateful for the readiness to keep supporting this work. It's very important that Ireland, as the country holding the Presidency, provides leadership, and that Ukraine can count on opening the remaining clusters. I thank Ireland and all our partners across Europe, in America, and around the world for their tangible support – and for a new support package from Ireland. It makes a difference. I thank all the people of Ireland for caring.
