I haven't worked out yet how it works, but I'm hoping to find my friends at Mastodon, where you can find me under @IsabelBest@urbanists.social. I like the look of the urbanists group, who are into cycling and thinking about improving life in cities, public transport etc.
Something for the weekend: a (rather long) piece in @Cyclingnewsfeed celebrating women's cycling records, for International Women's Day. Grab yourself a cup of tea and let me know who else you think I should have included. cyclingnews.com/pro-cycling/…
They lie, and then then lie again, and they take us for idiots. At least this story is getting some traction now. theguardian.com/world/2025/a…
6th story down, on the New York Times' Middle East section. "Some aid workers killed in Gaza were shot multiple times". I don't know what's worse. The crime itself, or the way it's represented, mis-represented or not even reported on, by the so-called newspapers of record.
If you care about humanity, if you would rather not live in a world where it's OK to dehumanise others and commit impromptu executions of health workers, and where newspapers don't consider such crimes as news, please read this and share it with your MP. theguardian.com/commentisfre…
It emerged today that Israel summarily executed 15 paramedics and aid workers and threw their bodies into a mass grave. Where is the outrage? Who is even reporting on this horror? The @guardian is the only UK publication. I've scrolled through US, French and German newspapers

Nuclear weapons are a profound and existential threat to humanity.
Instead of investing in weapons of mass destruction, we should be investing in our schools, hospitals and housing to ensure everyone can lead a happy and healthy life.
That is what real security means.

@carysafoko “yeah, we cannot expect decency or compassion from them, So the question is: how do we organise?” @over_under_pod_
I really hope these campus protests mark a watershed moment. This student's points are so well put.

This is an excellent summary of Israel's post 7/10 assault on the Palestinian people. The key problem is the systematic dehumanisation of Palestinians in Israeli culture. This war will never end until Jewish intellectuals and opinon formers speak out against Israel's war crimes.
And as we grew up, she regularly talked about the Stanley Milgram psychology experiment with the men lab coats and the 'corrective' electrocutions, telling us to never mindlessly obey authority, and always listen to our instincts of what's right and wrong.
