Have you ever heard of Teiglach? Teiglach are a traditional and yummy Rosh Hashanah dessert! The round dough balls coated in delicious honey syrup are a sweet treat for a sweet year! Instructions: Defrost a bag of Rhodes frozen dough (or make your own dough from scratch). Roll dough into small round balls. Bake in the oven until golden brown. In a large saucepan, add 1 lb. of honey, ½ cup of sugar, 1/4 tsp ground ginger, and 2 tsp orange zest (ginger and orange zest are optional). Slowly bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the Teiglach balls to the honey mixture and stir until the dough balls are well coated. Spoon into paper muffin or cupcake holders and sprinkle with colorful sprinkles. Enjoy the delicious Rosh Hashanah treat!

Our social media manager is out on vacation, and she asked us to post about maintenance week… Wait till she sees what’s happening: upgrades to the rock climbing area, the New Year’s Resolution exhibit, and a brand new Beit Hamikdash (Holy Temple) mural. And a nice, thorough clean, of course!

Here at the Jewish Children’s Museum, it’s maintenance week. This is when all the details, large and small, are checked over. It’s a time to make sure the museum is all in order, and if something is broken, it’s a chance to fix it. Right now we are in the Jewish month of Elul. Elul is like maintenance week but for a whole month! It’s the time to look over everything we did this year and check if any of our actions need fixing. If we do, Elul is the perfect time to correct any mistakes we’ve made and become the truest version of ourselves✨. 🧹🧽🪣Shabbat Shalom🧹🧽🪣 Light Shabbat candles in NYC @ 7:05 pm🕯️🕯️ Parshat Nitzavim-Vayelech

In honor of Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year), introducing… our DIY Rosh Hashanah-themed sensory activity! It’s easy to make, and a kids' favorite! Follow along and learn how to create a fun at-home sensory activity using supplies you likely already have! There are many beautiful Rosh Hashanah traditions, including one called Tashlich. Tashlich is a Hebrew word that means “to cast.” Special verses are recited next to a body of water, preferably one that has fish. Doing this symbolically accomplishes the goal of casting our sins into the sea. Then men and boys shake the corners of their Tallit Katan (Tzitzit garment), which represents a tangible way to shake the sins away. Tashlich helps us start the new year with a clean heart, a fresh start, and a big smile. Let us know in the comments how your sensory bin came out. We’d love to hear!

A family favorite for a reason💫. “We love all the seasonal activities - but Kosher Wonderland most of all!” — Shevy Bukshpan, a Jewish Children’s Museum member family. Kosher Wonderland brings kosher learning to life through hands-on play. They can build their own kosher sandwiches, explore which fish are kosher and which ones aren’t, and sort dairy, meat, and pareve foods. Many colorful activities and experiences children can actually see, touch, and enjoy😄!

Building a kosher meal takes a little thought🍽️🤔. Every food on the menu needs to be kosher✔️, and milk and meat must stay separate. Look through the word search and build your dream kosher meal using the first 3 Kosher foods you find👀. Share your menu in the comments!

“Hi👋 my name is Chaya’le Strassberg, and I’m the marketing director at the Jewish Children’s Museum. The Shofar exhibit is my favorite. I particularly love the Shofar Creator bench, found in the Holiday Village. As a child, I was always fascinated by how things are made, and this exhibit gives children the opportunity to explore that process firsthand. This exhibit gives children the opportunity to touch real tools that were once used to shape and prepare the Shofar (ram’s horn), making it fit for use. It's a fun, hands-on way to see how an ordinary horn is transformed into a special Shofar that's ready to be blown. Today is the first day of the Hebrew month of Elul, when it is customary to begin blowing the Shofar each day, in anticipation of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. 🐏📯⛏️🪚🧰 Chodesh Tov & Shabbat Shalom 🐏📯⛏️🪚🧰 Light Shabbat candles in NYC @ 7:37 pm🕯️🕯️ Parshat Shoftim
