I’ve been in this fight my whole life.
Don’t ever let them make you feel powerless. When working people stand together, there’s nothing we can’t do.
Today is the last day to vote early. Let’s go win this thing, Maine.

I am proud to be part of The Rule of Law Project, officially launched today, which brings together former federal civil rights and corruption prosecutors and investigators along with global human rights leaders to create a nonpartisan organization dedicated to restoring criminal accountability for US public officials who break the law. ruleoflawproject.org/news/pr…

Americans will cast ballots based on issues like affordability. But what's at stake is far, far more -- it's the pillars of the model that led the US to become the world's most powerful country, and it's today's fragile global order. As Bono told me, "everything we love is on the line." A gift link: nytimes.com/2026/10/24/opini…
OBAMA: He made a bunch of promises to get costs under control. I think we should examine how did these promises work out? Well, first of all, if you thought everything cost too much before… everything is more expensive now.
I want to be fair. As a former president, I can tell you sometimes factors beyond the president's control end up foiling the best laid plans.
That is not the case here.
This administration's actions are directly responsible for rising costs. The current president chose to make a series of bad decisions. Most importantly, he decided to start an unnecessary war that nobody asked for and nobody voted for

On #UNDay I think of what the UN looks like from the other side: a tent against the rain, a classroom far from home, the chance to start again after leaving home.. I know what that chance means. It was part of my story. Advancing these values has been the privilege of a lifetime.

The #UN operates today under conditions for which it was not designed. One is the mismatch between the system’s architecture and the nature of contemporary risks: climate change, pandemics, and advanced technologies are transnational, intergenerational, and intersystemic. They do not fit a state-centric, issue-siloed institutional design.

How can the UN act when major powers block collective action?
Today the Toda Peace Institute and the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation publish Reinventing the United Nations: eight policy briefs and an introduction on how the UN can recover its capacity to act.

Stein Tønnesson and Björn Holmberg, who lead the two institutions, open the collection with a foreword. I convened the research group and wrote the introduction.
What would most strengthen the UN's capacity to act? I welcome your views.

The US reportedly opposes all seven candidates for UN Secretary-General. Reform is a fair demand. Political alignment is not. Article 100 protects the office's independence. My new Toda Global Outlook on what other member states can do.
