Jason Arday is yet another painful example of how academia is still a tool of empire used to protect and defend white supremacy. We’ve been warning for years that the system can offer us a seat at the table without ever surrendering the pillars of injustice used to build it.

Black people, please look after yourselves on social media and in real life. Do that in whatever way helps you. Block, delete, disengage and limit replies. Find a safe space. Have conversations with people who genuinely care

Sending love to Jason Arday's family and friends. He was subject of sustained and malicious media attacks which were no doubt more vicious because he was Black. We must now reflect on the impact of a trial by some of the media and online on someone under extreme pressure.

I’ve just pre-ordered Jason Arday’s book, Great and Unfortunate Things, because I want it to be a bestseller and for his kids to see the royalties. Haters, you can keep walking. waterstones.com/book/great-a…

At some point a conversation needs to be had about this pattern. Institutions hire Black academics just to attack them behind the scenes as they are forced to stay silent continue doing the job they were hired for they resign, attacks continued @Plaid_Cymru @Heledd_Plaid
Can’t help but think @AmgueddfaCymru tried to do to me what they did to Dr Arday, Hiring me to Decolonise just to put me through hell, assassinate my character. Then AFTER I couldn’t take any more and resigned They leaked a hateful false report to press @Plaid_Cymru

It was never about plagiarism or lies. It was simply about race. The guy who launched the witch-hunt campaign is a eugenicist.

The death of Jason Arday hit so close to home that I had no words yesterday. But I woke up with words. To be a prominent antiracist Black scholar is to know you are a target, almost totally surrounded by resentments. You know that at any point, the attacks can come like a lynch mob. And if you die from all the attacks, the media still calls the attacks on you “accusations” to wash their hands of the blood. Your lynchers announce your death as if they had no role in your lynching. My latest at The Emancipator. theemancipator.org/2026/08/1…
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
To lynch means when an angry crowd or mob kills a person without a legal trial or lawful justice, usually by hanging them from a rope. The tragic death of Jason Arday has been reported as a suicide following his resignation over allegations of plagiarism & data fraud. telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/202…

The level of media scrutiny directed at Jason Arday was unprecedented. Even after he resigned. The Times was still paying for Ads on twitter.

The only time I’ll ever thank god that no one cares about Wales, & rarely makes national news. Thank god NC & @AmgueddfaCymru did not succeed & I’m still here Free to tell what they did to me (staff were ordered to sign NDA & not talk about decolonisation) @Plaid_Cymru
