After many of you lovely people told me how you say “garage” in a poll, I concluded that it has too many pronunciations to work in a rhyming poem.
Which meant, of course, that I had to try.
Word that’s making me smile today: envermeiled. It’s a lost word that means to be suffused with a brilliant scarlet colour, as if with vermillion.
If only every writer — young or old — had someone like @PieCorbett in their corner
Word that’s making me smile today: hugmynd is the Icelandic word for idea. It literally means “mind picture,” but it looks like “hug for the mind” in English.

Word that’s making me smile today: sky. In Old Norse, a ský was a cloud that cast a shadow over the earth. The Vikings brought the word to England, where it shifted over time to mean the entire upper atmosphere.

Word that’s making me smile today: inkle. It’s a lost word from the 14th century that means to utter in an undertone or hint at. A whisper of this word has survived into the 21st century in the word inkling.

Word that’s making me smile today: scunnered. It’s a Scottish word that means completely fed up with a person or situation. If you’re scunnered, your last nerve is vibrating with irritation.

A mischief of mice, a flamboyance of flamingos, a waddle of penguins (or a ‘raft’ if they are in water). What is your favourite collective noun? Feel free to suggest new ones!
