Thank you @iainoverton & @AOAV - great to share my views on the role of data-driven and #blastengineering approaches for informing the protection of civilians from blast, the #EWIPA #PoliticalDeclaration and broader advocacy efforts.
Great interview with @aoav board member Jack Denny (@JackWDenny): academic expertise informing very real life issues
Implementing the Political Declaration on explosive weapons in populated areas: why engineering-perspectives on blast effects matter

To implement the #Declaration, we need to understand the blast effects of what we are trying to protect people from.
@AOAV and @TheIBRN's @JackWDenny explored why engineering-perspectives matter when discussing the protection of civilians from #EWIPA.👇

Excellent event & interesting discussions! Thank you @UNIDIR & @WeaponsMonitor for inviting me and the @TheIBRN to participate in this important workshop concerning data collection on the effects of explosive weapons in populated areas #EWIPA
🧵 (1/3) UNIDIR & @WeaponsMonitor are convening experts from across humanitarian, development and peace & security fields for a workshop discussing measures & effective practices for strengthening the collection of data on the reverberating effects of the use of #EWIPA ⬇️

Day 2!
With April’s Oslo Conf. approaching, UNIDIR & @WeaponsMonitor is promoting a discuss. with States, IOs & civil society on how the Political Declaration on EWIPA can be leveraged to strengthen efforts to collect data to prevent & reduce civilian harm from the use of #EWIPA

Today France & @AOAV held a side event on "Mitigating IEDs effects". Many thanks to panelists @iainoverton @TIGizelis @JackWDenny Jenny Dathan for their deep data analysis (huge impact on civilians, esp. women) and subsequent recommendations to policymakers & urban planners.
Excited to present some of my research at tomorrow’s @UN side event on ‘understanding and mitigating the impact of explosions outside conventional warfare’, organised by @AOAV

How can the global engineering community take action in #DisasterRiskReduction?
As David Smith emphasised at a recent @UN event, engineers are well placed to provide innovative solutions, but cross-collaboration is vital to accelerating #DRR.
