I feel like somehow the weapon variety will give PB0 the edge in "Best Action Game". tbf Onimusha didn't need it (and they cleverly added variety via the Oni Weapons). I still think mechanically Onimusha is better but PB0 is fun af too.
Which combat system do you prefer? Onimusha: Way of the Sword vs. Phantom Blade Zero

Phantom Blade Zero might actually be the first game in the world that gives you a ladder prompt from the opposite side and actually has an animation of him shifting along to the correct side to climb it. Innovative AF for that cause that would bug me in video games.

I think SquareEnix is being a little too overzealous with Revelation stuff. I guess technically it’s not a “spoiler” since it’s still based on a game from ‘97 but leave some stuff for that first time engagement. If they’re showing this much now, imagine when the date gets closer.

You’re telling me I had a chance to see Dr. Alan Grant vs. Sharptooth?! I had heard rumblings about this but it’s nice to see this lost media come to light.
LOST MEDIA: In 1993, an animated series titled ESCAPE FROM JURASSIC PARK was in development. It was eventually cancelled before full production; however, not before a lot of work was done, including a pitch trailer. At long last, that trailer has been unearthed.

So, the combat is starting to open up for me in Phantom Blade Zero. I’m beginning to understand the right way to play that works for me and I think alternating between dodging and parrying is the way to go.

I guess this show was a flop? I’ve literally not heard nor seen anyone talk about it after seeing it advertised when trailers were dropping. Anime twitter ain’t been talking about it so I guess it was nostalgia bait but still pretty bad like its predecessor series.

I can just hear her theme playing in my head every time I see art of her: youtu.be/qR92VsjVVWk?is=sT0X…
Perhaps one of the scenes in the first episode of GOLDEN BOY where Madame President looks her best. Egawa’s original artwork in the manga was already exceptionally detailed, but man, look at this douga! It’s so neat... GOLDEN BOY is truly a masterpiece.

Tiffany gonna cash in at Crown Jewel and probably be the first to actually cash in and take home 2 belts.

Early impressions of Phantom Blade Zero are positive, but also fall short of my expectations. Combat is flashy and the animations are spectacular, but they’re also hard to read outside of the telegraphed blue and red flashes, which makes combat feel like a defensive mash fest.

It’s true, when you do play games of a similar genre within the same time frame, you find yourself making comparisons “harsher”. I don’t want people to misconstrue my feelings, but I’ve been tenured enough at action games to know what I gravitate towards more.

I think what’s “triggering” me is lowkey seeing people hype this game’s combat up but never played Sekiro nor Onimusha: WOTS. You wanna hype it up as an enjoyable wuxia game, the exploration, visuals etc, sure. Don’t praise this game as having the best/innovative combat.

I actually this is a very fair opinion. It’s not shitting on PB0 on some “it’s objectively bad”, he’s just saying Onimusha did it better and I can resonate with that. Onimusha did better for me in its first 3 hours than PB0 has done for me in the same amount of time.
Phantom Blade Zero Sucks...

That being said, I still think PB0 is a game worth playing if you were genuinely interested and I am enjoying it, but if this actually wins “Best Action Game” over Onimusha I would be genuinely disappointed.

A sequel isn’t a farfetched idea, but the only concern is the genre it would end up being because they did a sequel with the Valkyrie series and it was an action RPG from the turn based it once was.

With the release of the new trailer, I have something I would like to share with you. Last week, we lost our Assistant Producer, Parisi Giuseppe, after his battle with cancer. He was one of my closest collaborators and a dear friend. The idea of “reality” as a key theme for VFCR was born from brainstorming sessions we had together in the early days of the project, before he had officially joined the team. Around that time, I learned that he was living with illness. Even so, I wanted to make this project with him. He shared that feeling, and joined the team. He told me that, while working, he wanted to be able to forget about his illness. True to his word, he dedicated himself to the project with unwavering determination and passion until the very end. He was a huge fan of Virtua Fighter and SEGA—and a devoted Pai player. He held deep respect for Japanese studios and their work, while bringing a perspective from abroad that no one else could have brought to the team. He was truly irreplaceable. We discussed and chose the names of the new characters together. Lionel, too, is a character we shaped together. His loss is immeasurable. The passion he brought to VFCR, and everything he left with us, will continue to live on in this project. It may take us a little time before we are able to share our next update. We would be grateful for your patience and for continuing to watch over the project.

Glad to see I’m not the only one feeling the same way about Phantom Blade Zero. It’s a weird feeling because usually action games are supposed to have you in the first hour and only get better from there. I didn’t read reviews so I missed all the “It starts off slow” disclaimers.

Ironically, I did not have this issue with Onimusha, Wolverine, nor Control Resonant. Those 3 games are action games but they are considerably different from each other so it’s definitely not “fatigue” either.
