Join us for a conversation with two recent Chairs of @thecrimson Editorial Board, @tbarone03 and @JacobMeirMiller, who led the paper from December 2023 to December 2024 and co-authored the widely discussed @nytimes op-ed on free expression at Harvard

Terrific @nytopinion piece by @tbarone03 and @JacobMeirMiller on how they stimulated civil discourse/debate at Harvard @thecrimson as editorial co-editors. I had pleasure to work with them on great opeds from @cafharvard. @sapinker
Real debate still happens at Harvard, and it can happen in your org too.
Today in @NYTOpinion, @JacobMeirMiller and I tell the story of how @TheCrimson’s editorial board worked to disagree more civilly about the issues that divided our campus in 2024.

Chairing @thecrimson's editorial board taught me that civil, vibrant discourse on extremely divisive issues is still possible on college campuses today.
Here’s how we did it at The Crimson — and how you can too.

One of the things Jacob incidentally highlights in his final column is the privilege we Zionist Jews have on campus to sit in a room with people who challenge our beliefs, even and especially when it’s most difficult to hear them.
While Harvard is being attacked by Trump and the broader American public, what happens on the ground seems to tell a different story — and perhaps we ought to listen to the students who are there.
College was never supposed to be easy. True diversity is difficult and uncomfortable. Jacob’s editorial board is and should be a model for student newspapers across the country.
I graduate today from Harvard College. In my final column for The Crimson, I describe my undergraduate experience and the vital discourse we need at this precarious political moment.

Our national politics "has created a twisted incentive structure—one in which Jews on campus feel compelled to characterize certain behaviors as anti-Semitic because they know that is the one sin campus will surely condemn" writes @JacobMeirMiller

"If we define antisemitism as animus towards or discrimination against Jews, these objections to anti-Zionism don’t directly imply that anti-Zionism is antisemitic. But anti-Zionism can still be deeply wrong without being antisemitic."

Excellent insight by current @harvard student @JacobMeirMiller. We tie ourselves in knots to prove anti-Zionism is antisemitic because group-based identity prejudice has become our sole ethical standard. But it's also wrong for so many other reasons! In his own words: 🧵
This is my tenth piece on antisemitism and anti-Zionism in @thecrimson. I've been waiting to say this for a while and the time has finally come: We need a major course correction in how we talk about antisemitism and Israel.

Yesterday @Harvard published its long-awaited report on antisemitism. Today I published an op-ed that's been on my mind for just as long — about everything the debate about campus antisemitism misses. thecrimson.com/article/2025/…
Why can't Harvard use its endowment to compensate for Trump's funding cuts?
I modeled what would happen to the endowment over time if Harvard were to do that... and it turns out the endowment would begin to deplete. 🧵
I also modeled what would happen if various different proposals to tax the endowment were enacted. Bottom line: taxes, and @JDVance's proposal in particular, could significantly hurt endowment growth. Over the next decade, the losses would be $3.3 billion in endowment payouts.
