I can understand being someone who read the book and feeling like it basterdized the source. That's how I feel abt the Odyssey. But since I haven't, I can only judge it as a film instead of an adaptation(since idk anything abt the source material). I believe it will be a phenomenal film, but I hope it's something that respects the source material in spirit as well. And I'm seeing a lot of mixed reactions so far from those who've actually read the source material. So we'll see once it comes out.

Yes it is a bad thing if a film bombs, and is usually either an indicator of the movie's quality, brand health, poor marketing, or sometimes all 3. In this case the second option.
