I spent nearly half of my 20s in a hospital bed. My lung function is below 40% and gets lower each day. And I have the most wonderful life I could ever imagine because of the relationships and love in my life.

When I was growing up with cystic fibrosis in and out of hospitals the Red Sox gave me something to root for and believe in. Payton Tolle lost his mother 2 years ago to colon cancer, she was 48. Yet he is one of the most positive people I’ve ever seen. He’s pitching tonight against the Yankees and after watching this clip how can you not root for him?

Jina Tolle was diagnosed in July 2016, right around the time Payton (who was born on November 1, 2002) was preparing to enter the eighth grade. At the time of her diagnosis, doctors originally gave her fewer than three months to live, but she aggressively fought the disease for nearly eight years.
She went to all his games she could through high school, college, and gave everything she could to be there for her son as long as she could.
