College football: Well, things are turning out just like I predicted. Here we are approaching the end of October and the Beavers have a better record than the Ducks, a higher ranking than the Ducks & have a much better chance of making the College Football Playoff. Weird world.
Deer update: Yes, the punks have eaten a lot of the flowers on the porch, but this porker is actually helping us out by shearing off the weeds fighting their way up through the bark dust. The cervids giveth and the cervids taketh away.
Signs of fall: Check out the color of these leaves on a tree on Mill Street in Silverton. Fall hasn't been too destructive thus far. Have had a couple of nights below 40. Only got rained on at one football game and that was only for the first quarter. Cheers!
Silverton update: Volunteers led by the Pudding River Watershed Council and the Marion Soil & Water Conservation District pulled 206 tires out of Abiqua Creek last Saturday. Good show!
Obituary: Walter Koenig, who played the Russian navigator Pavel Chekov on the original Star Trek series/movies, has died at 90. Best lines? Star Trek II: "It was KHAN! He put creatures in our bodies that made us do crazy things." Star Trek IV: "Take me to the nuclear wessels."
Sunsets and sports: One of my go-to photos is spotting cool sunsets at athletic events, athough at this time of the year they almost always occur during the pre-game moments. Here is how things went down at Stayton before a boys soccer match on Thursday.
Robots in sports: Apparently many schools are using robots with GPA coordinates plugged in to line their athletic fields. Cascade soccer field & Santiam football field are good examples. It's a bit spendy, but it keeps your AD from spending 6-8 hours covered in chalk. Looks nice!
