TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team (TGR-WRT)は、新たな時代を迎える2027年FIA世界ラリー選手権において、異なる2車種を使用し、充実したドライバー陣と共に2つのチームで戦います。
2つのチームは、GR Celica Rally1を投入するTOYOTA RACINGと、2027年型のGR Yaris Rally1で参戦するGAZOO Racing TOYOTAで、両チームを合わせたドライバーラインナップには、2026年のチャンピオンであるエルフィン・エバンスに加え、WRCへの復帰を果たすオィット・タナックとカッレ・ロバンペラの3人の世界チャンピオンが名を連ねます。さらに、優勝経験とさらなるポテンシャルを持ち合わせるドライバーを組み合わせる形で、オリバー・ソルベルグ、サミ・パヤリ、勝田貴元が加わり新シーズンを戦います。
現在、チームは、2027年の新しいRally1技術規定のもとでも全てのドライバーに「勝てるクルマ」を提供するという理念を引き続き中心に据え、各ラウンドに最大6台のワークス車両を投入する準備を進めています。これらの車両は2つのチームに分けてエントリーされ、両チームが優勝を争う対等なライバルとして戦います。これにより競争を活性化し、ファンの皆様が新たな物語を追いながら楽しんでいただける機会を生み出していきます。
TOYOTA RACINGチームのドライバーには、新型のGR Celica Rally1が託されます。トヨタのラリー史において最も象徴的な車名の一つがWRCに復活することになります。
エキサイティングな新時代へ移行する中で、TGR-WRTという名称は、ユヴァスキュラを拠点とし、車両開発を担う会社の名称として引き続き使用します。11月3日にユヴァスキュラの本拠地で実施した体制発表に先立ち、11月2日には、近隣のマヤヤルヴィで建設が進められている新技術センターの起工式も実施しました。
一方、フィンランド中部の森林にて、チームは2027年型プロトタイプカーを使った6日間のラリーシミュレーションテストを実施しており、本日(11月3日)に最終日を迎えます。GR Celica Rally1とGR Yaris Rally1は、FIAの新しいWRC車両規定に基づき、並行して開発が進められており、同じ出力と性能を備えることになります。この新規定は、最高峰のRally1カテゴリーへの参戦をより容易にし、競争を激化させることを目的としたものです。ホモロゲーションの手続きは12月末までに完了する予定で、2台の車両の詳細やカラーリングについては、2027年シーズン開幕前に改めて発表します。
