I have no clue if this would be helpful, but it's been on my heart this morning. I designed a lesson for middle schoolers about the recent #TikTok trend. Feel free to use/edit/toss it. Google slides to show & a Google Doc printable to record reflections. docs.google.com/presentation…

I'm of the opinion that no-one would ever order the monkfish again if they saw the original packaging

The premise of merit pay, and indeed of all rewards, is that people *could* be doing a better job but have perversely refused to do so until it’s bribed out of them.

Too often we’re running in circles because “In a system that favors standardization rather than personalization, students are ahead or behind those arbitrary benchmarks for each grade every single year,” anyway.

Students struggling in math class don’t need traditional remediation. They need rich mathematical experiences related to their lives in order to make sense of what they are learning. “More of the same but slower/simpler” merely keeps those students behind.

Fact: TikTok videos are only 60 seconds in length. Also fact: Explaining a complex concept accurately in 60 seconds shows a considerable depth of understanding. Ergo, I dare you to replace your next test with a TikTok challenge.

Today's PSA: "Learning Loss" is a made-up construct and only serves to deflate students, educators, and caregivers. It invalidates their hard work and resiliency, ignores all the learning that happened, and adds unnecessary stress. #remotelearning #education

If students don't TRUST that a teacher’s grades are meant only to communicate their learning, then they may fail to understand that the purpose of the class is to LEARN the objectives, NOT to EARN the grade.

Not sure who needs to know this but, here’s a hot tip: if you know someone with limited mobility, Uncle Weiner’s on Regent (wholesale place, yes, real name...) has adult trikes in stock that you have to assemble, but less than $300, could change a life. Mother’s Day perhaps?

Growth mindset is critical in being able to succeed in teaching today. If you are content with doing the same thing for the next 20 years you not only will fall way behind but more importantly do a disservice to your students. #edchat
