Replying to @thetimes
Finland is the model we should follow .
They banned all private schools and invested all in the state system .

Final push in our #Hospitality fight: the letter’s delivered.
What’s done is done; now, we await the outcome. #CuttingVAT
Heartfelt thanks to all who’ve supported our #CutVat campaign and signed our petition.

Good to see @susannareid100 & @richardm56 discussing Hospitality Industry with @simonrim who has just announced closure of Greens in Manchester
His only solution is a Cut in VAT to 10% as our opportunity 2earn a living has been crushed @10DowningStreet @Jeremy_Hunt @UKHospKate

The Government have failed the Hospitality sector.
Failed to help with a VAT reduction.
Failed to get a grip on the big Energy Co's who have leeched off the sector.
Failed to save businesses. Failed to save jobs.

Yesterday The Chancellor did the media rounds saying on Wednesday he will "remove barriers to business growth."
If he has listened to Hospitality, that will include reducing VAT to 12.5%.
Extending Business Rates Relief
Its not a question of growth, its a question of survival.

The irony is that Business rates for Hospitality will probably stay as is (at the reduced rate, despite record tax returns!) and this will be dressed up as a "cut" and "saving Hospitality" the reality is IF it is increased it will see hundreds of Hospitality businesses close, despite recording record tax returns to HMRC. The real "tax reduction" here is, and has ALWAYS been cutting the VAT that's what the governement should be doing to encourage growth, protect a industry, keep the 3rd biggest employer in the UK employing. Let's see what happens this week. Yet, like the "beer duty cut" don't dress it up if you just keep rates reduced, quite frankly that should be plain simple. It's VAT we need and VAT we want #CuttheVAT

Great piece on what's going on.
Yet, this is just the tip of the iceberg... it doesn't include the CVA, the flips, the quiet closures, the paid for empty shells...news.sky.com/story/restauran…

I’m starting to think the BBC Presenter involved in the scandal should now come forward publicly. These new allegations will result in yet more vitriol being thrown at perfectly innocent colleagues of his. And the BBC, which I’m sure he loves, is on its knees with this.
But it is his decision and his alone.

'The BBC is on the edge of a crisis that could make the Phillip Schofield saga look like a mere footnote in broadcasting history. Threatening not just the career of a famous unnamed star, but the future of our national broadcaster altogether.'
