Thank you to everyone who discussed community pharmacy with us at the Labour Party Conference this week.
It was valuable to spend time with ministers, MPs, policymakers, community pharmacy representatives and stakeholders from across the health and care sector, discussing how Labour’s vision for more community-centred healthcare can be delivered in practice.
At our fringe event with Re:State, Public Health and Patient Safety Minister Dame Diana Johnson DBE spoke positively about pharmacy’s role and highlighted the importance of the sector in delivering the ambitions of the NHS 10 Year Health Plan and neighbourhood health.
Discussions also highlighted the conditions needed to unlock pharmacy’s full potential — including sustainable investment, appropriate incentives, better infrastructure and greater flexibility to design services around local community needs.
We look forward to continuing these conversations with Government, policymakers and colleagues across community pharmacy as this work progresses.

It’s a busy schedule at Labour Party Conference following our event with new pharmacy Minister Dame Diana Johnson MP yesterday.
Today our Chief Executive @JanetMorrisonUK heard Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Yvette Cooper setting out her priorities for the health service. She said care at the beginning of life - maternity and early years - is a personal passion, also highlighting social care as the Prime Minister’s priority.
The NHS 10 Year Plan and three shifts - from sickness to prevention, hospital to community and analogue to digital - are still very much top of the agenda too.
We’ve been highlighting once again how community pharmacy must be at the centre of all of this - supporting people to stay healthy throughout their lives.
Healthy high streets event with no mention of pharmacies despite being rated most important service on the high street by the public. Open door access to health care yet facilities unfunded and no business rate relief.

Labour Conference event this morning focused on the need to make more progress moving care out of hospitals. Pharmacy and eye care are clear parts of the solution. @The_AOP rightly says that patients can’t wait any longer for this to happen.
