1-on-1 with Wemby:
Victor Wembanyama’s blood clot threatened to take away almost everything he held dearly. It also lit a fire within him to expand his world.
Months later, he found himself standing in front of Big Red and the captains of his passion project that he hand selected, delivering the first PowerPoint presentation of his life.
From tears to puke to cheers, this is the crazy story of Wemby and the Jackals, the NBA’s first ultras fan group. Wemby wanted to build something bigger than himself. It became so much more.

NEW STORY:
“I feel like it’s obvious for me. I need to go back to playing the basketball I like. This is not the sport I like right here.”
The Spurs’ new 3-guard lineup needs a lot of work. But the opening night loss to the Thunder shows that it all starts with Wemby.

Wemby said he needs to have fun out there after one of his worst games of his career in an opening night Spurs loss against the Thunder. I broke down what exactly went wrong for the new starting lineup and Wemby.
Victor Wembanyama on what went wrong in loss to Thunder: “I feel like it's obvious for me. I need to go back to playing the basketball I like. This is not the sport I like right here. I got no reason to be hesitant, no reason to not be myself. For me, it's as simple as that. I'm good when I have fun.”
Mitch Johnson on the new 3-guard starting lineup: “However many guards we played, they all struggled tonight. It was a pretty well-rounded poor effort by all of us.”
Spurs couldn't have played much worse in this game tonight. Their offensive spacing is a mess right now and Wembanyama is not fitting into what they're trying to do. The Thunder defense was sitting back int he paint throughout the night and Wembanyama couldn't figure out where to operate in a way that took advantage. IT also doesn't help that he missed every shot, except for one alley-oop.
Harper is staying on the bench after subbing out and does not appear to be going to the locker room.
The Spurs' spacing with this starting group is awful when the Thunder are not guarding Castle on the perimeter. The Spurs' response has been to keep him at the top of the arc so that he will have a driving lane whenever he gets the ball and they aren't up on him. If the spurs drive and kick enough, they eventually get a wide open shot. Now they're at least hitting them.
We got a skirmish breaking out here after Fox appears to toss Chet on a post up and then everybody started getting in there and shoving.
The Spurs are in a full spring on every defensive rebound. At one point, Wemby even waited for a made basket to fall through the net and tipped it to his teammate to inbound it half a second quicker while Wemby sprinted back. Spurs are really locked in on running as much as possible with this starting group.

NEW feature on the Spurs’ Paris trip:
“That’s where he became who he is.”
When Victor Wembanyama brought his teammates into his childhood gym in Nanterre, they could sense the blood, sweat and tears that evaporated years ago.
This was the place where they learned what made Vic turn into Wemby and how they could collectively move on from losing the Finals.
