1/Here is DEA’s complete safety plan for legacy pain patients left stranded when they just shut down a California doc who saw “opioid refugees”
It’s a list of ERs!😨
DEA closed down a doc.
Within days, one I previously interviewed is dead by suicide and another is scrambling

Feeling powerless to harness the reachable moment when patients using stimulants are hospitalized with infection? Worried about patient-directed discharge?
Us too.
Check out my poster (virtually!!) describing our pilot of a novel adaptation of contingency management... 1/10

Fantastic work by @AyeshaAppaMD! CM is low hanging fruit - it’s cheap, effective, easily adaptable to so many settings, and yet still widely unavailable. We can do better!

An isolation period of 5 days after Covid is totally inadequate for most people. New report from >63,000 people. Negative rapid tests are an essential guide

1/I want to highlight a new way selling out one’s academic profile- here a @JohnsHopkinsDOM doc has made his Twitter channel a “sincere” advertisement for an inhaler, “sponsored” by AstraZeneca
The false statement by the faculty member is concerning

Of 1.8 million incarcerated Americans, 15% have opioid use disorder. Most never receive treatment. Study found buprenorphine use increased in correctional settings over the past five years, though its use is still rare. @especially_APT @BrendanSaloner ja.ma/3oTWrhr

In a representative US sample, adults who had discussed harms of alcohol with their clinician in the last year had 66% higher odds of being aware that alcohol caused cancer. #alcoholuse #providercommunication @MedicineUVA link.springer.com/article/10…

Finally attention to xylazine. But these reports miss the point because they aren’t actually talking to people who use drugs.
Xylazine in dope is intentional. PWUD like it because it holds of withdrawal. Yet it may cause fatal iron depletion.

Passionate about avoiding low-value tests that may harm vulnerable patients?

Very excited to share our study in @JournalGIM. Bottom line: A survivorship model of OUD is a reasonable alternative to the chronic disease model. It honors the experience but doesn’t keep people in a ‘diseased’ state. See the #visualabstract and article rdcu.be/clap3
