The LongNow foundation is a nonprofit hyper-focused on building long-term thinking into our society. One of my favorite LongNow projects is a clock being built in the West Texas mountains which will keep accurate time for 10,000 years... Here's more info: longnow.org/clock/

As a boy, I was inspired by Dr Robert Ballard's discovery of the Titanic and the endeavors of Amelia Earhart and Ernest Shackleton. This most recent discovery is a reminder of what we are capable of when we apply our energy toward learning and exploration. nytimes.com/2022/03/09/clima…

NASA's James Webb Telescope has officially activated its cameras to capture its first target star. The telescope will capture 18 blurry images, that will be merged to create a single sharp image of the star. Super cool! More info on the telescope: webb.nasa.gov/content/about/…

Yesterday was the 60th anniversary of the launch of Discoverer 36 with its OSCAR 1 payload, a radio satellite built totally by amateurs. The event marked two amazing firsts: 1st private non-government spacecraft and 1st piggyback satellite. tinyurl.com/2p95ez3t

p.s. Today is also the birthday of one of the men who made Concorde possible. Sir Barnes Wallis was born on this day in 1887, his lifetime saw the world move from wood & fabric biplanes to supersonic jets!

It's been a big month for space news -- a great opportunity to reflect on earlier milestones like Viking 1's landing on Mars on this day in 1976.
45 years ago in @NASAhistory, the Viking 1 lander became the first U.S. spacecraft to land on another planet – Mars! go.nasa.gov/3zjM60C
What could humanity accomplish if we set our sights and action toward the future? Not just a month or a year, or for that matter even this lifetime, but thinking in terms of millennia? We have the potential to truly make the future what we want it to be. @longnow

Last week marked the 45th anniversary of the Smithsonian’s Air & Space Museum in DC – I fondly remember my first visit as a wide-eyed 17-year-old standing next to the X-15.  So glad that this treasure re-opens on July 30.  airandspace.si.edu/about/his…

As a young, boy I wondered what it was like for him to look down at the moon while Neil and Buzz were on the surface.  Here we are 51 years later looking up at a waning moon and remembering him. nytimes.com/2021/04/28/scien…

If you’ve been awed by the Mars images from Ingenuity, imagine a glimpse into a Saturn moon. NASA aims to send another robotic rotorcraft – an octocopter called Dragonfly – to explore Titan, a big moon with Earthly similarities. Departure date: 2027. salon.com/2021/04/20/after-i…
