the biggest threat to crypto isn't the blockchain, it's the moment you click "Approve."
in February 2025, the crypto industry witnessed one of its biggest security disasters when approximately $1.5 billion was stolen from Bybit.
what makes the incident particularly alarming is that the attackers didn't break Bitcoin's cryptography, crack Ethereum's security or somehow defeat blockchain technology. Instead, they exploited the transaction approval process itself, manipulating what signers saw and ultimately causing a legitimate transaction to authorize something entirely different.
and the scary part is how most crypto users looked at the incident and thought:
“That could never happen to me.”
but that’s exactly the wrong conclusion because the biggest threat to your wallet isn’t always someone stealing your private keys.
sometimes, it’s you signing the wrong transaction.
