We all know that you can teach old dogs new tricks, but apparently reading isn't one of them! Two of our staff members tried to help senior dog Luke, a new intake, ease some shelter stress by offering him a book to read. He wasn't quite getting the hang of it though—but that's
pet. It's a total win-win: kids gain confidence and practice their reading skills (it can be way less intimidating to read aloud to a dog than to a classroom full of kids!), and stressed shelter dogs and cats get companionship and comfort. Studies show that these calm,
low-pressure interactions help fearful animals form positive associations with humans. 🐾 ❤️
Stay tuned for more details and for our official launch date! 📚

Fostering or adopting this sweet boy! We have one final round of our HVAC repair project, and this one involves COMPLETELY emptying our surgery and treatment area of animals, meaning Danny needs somewhere to go. Due to his special needs, we would LOVE to see him in a home—even
a short-term Space Force foster during this project would be huge.
If you're interested in fostering, please reach out to [email protected] or inquire at the front desk! We'll go over all of his medical notes and any questions you might have. 💖

This month is a great month—it's the NBCUniversal @cleartheshelters #ClearTheShelters adoption month! Animal shelters across the country have been able to connect even more animals with their people during a time of year where shelters often see the highest population.
This weekend, 8/30 - 9/2, we'll be waiving ALL adoption fees to help as many of our pets find homes as possible! View all of our currently available pets here: buff.ly/4623EOL and stop by the shelter during open hours to meet your new best friend. 🤩

Bet you didn't know that ACPS employees were fashion models, too! Well... sort of. We wanted to show off our latest idea in making Bo's Hope supplies as accessible as possible to the members of the community who need them.
Donations of toiletries, shelf-stable food, and pet
to hold some supplies, they'll be perfect.
As always, THANK YOU to everyone who is sharing this initiative and who has generously donated to Bo's Hope already. Never stray from hope. ❤️
If you'd like to be part of keeping this pantry stocked and help us spread the word to
anyone who might need these resources, please reach out to [email protected] or visit our Amazon wish list here: buff.ly/4fMM1Zo
