Meloni government being the longest-serving government in Italian history without having even served it's full term yet is extremely funny
Meloni government has just become the ONLY one in history to last more than 4 years

“The Simpsons” was a beloved animated sitcom that ran for ten legendary seasons and concluded in 1999. The show was celebrated for what was widely perceived as a near perfect run that wrapped before it wore out its concept and overstayed its welcome. Creator Matt Groening and showrunner James L. Brooks famously decided to bring the show to a conclusion after experiencing the negative audience reaction to the season 9 episode “The Principal and the Pauper,” in which it was revealed that the school’s principal was actually an impostor who had stolen the real Seymour Skinner’s identity. Brooks did not want to sully the show’s legacy by doing a bunch of weird episodes as the franchise slid into mediocrity and cultural irrelevance, so the writers and cast decided instead to go out on top and end things on a high note. However, because of its centrality in 90s pop culture, a long-running Internet joke is to pretend “The Simpsons” is still on the air, a premise that gets more absurd and deranged with each passing year. If this show were still producing new episodes, it would be in its 38th season now, and most of the voice cast would be in their 80s. The joke is to imagine how distorted this charming show would have become if it had been stretched out to more than 800 episodes. Comedy posters on “weird Twitter” used to try to top each other by making up terrible ideas for what modern episodes of the show might be like. For example, a viral 2012 tweet imagined an episode where Lady Gaga helps Lisa Simpson with her self esteem. In 2019, popular shitposter Megan Amram originated the premise of Bart Simpson becoming a men’s rights activist to protest a gender-swapped reboot of “Itchy and Scratchy.” But perhaps the most elaborate Internet “Simpsons” joke was a 2017 YouTube mockumentary “The Problem With Apu,” in which the comedian Hari Kondabolu ironically pretended to be offended by the charming and innocuous convenience store owner character Apu. Everyone thought this was hilarious, especially since the show had been off the air for nearly two decades when the mockumentary was released. So, Twitter ran with the joke by pretending to “cancel” Apu, and the viral gag memorably resulted in the character’s voice actor, Hank Azaria, recognizing the meme by promising never to perform the character again, which everybody thought was really funny since Azaria had been retired for years. Now, nearly a decade later, fans are pretending that the show — which has now been off the air longer than most people tweeting about it have been alive— has brought back the “cancelled” character with a new racially-appropriate voice actor. I actually don’t think this is that funny, and I kind of think the gag of pretending “The Simpsons” is still airing new episodes has overstayed its welcome, a mistake the actual show “The Simpsons” would never have made. If you haven’t seen this 1990s classic, which — and I cannot emphasize this enough — ended after 10 seasons in 1999, you can watch all the episodes on Disney+ (except the one with Michael Jackson that got pulled from streaming).
Apu has returned to The Simpsons. The character got a speaking appearance tonight for the first time in almost a decade, with Sunil Malhotra taking over the role.

America has a gun With (very few) apologies to Brian Bilston England is CCTV. France, a cop with lock and key. Greece, once free, now bends the knee. But, America has a gun. Sweden jails the ones who fight. Germany fines bad words at night. Spain forbids the wrong to write. But, America has a gun. Holland fines what words you say. Canada takes your knives away. Australia says, "you must Obey." While America has a gun. Japan will bow and not resist. Scotland bans what they won’t miss. Freedom bleeds, but still exists Because America has a gun. Better risk the fatal cost Than find that liberty was lost. The price is high, The fight, embossed Because America has a gun.

For reference on how bad US military industry is the most useless car company in the world is pulling off “impossible” production miracles immediately after entering the market
Pretty cool that General Motors was able to retool a car factory to make the outer shells of the Patriot missiles. They've managed to make the delivery to Lockheed just 22 days after signing the contract. (22 days!!!!! We still got it...🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸) Lockheed says this work normally takes months or years for the previous supplier (General Dynamics) to fulfill. There's a strain of neoliberal thinking that says if domestic carmakers can’t compete, they should just be allowed to fail. No bailouts. Just let Japan or China make cars because of comparative advantage or whatever. Imagine if we had believed that automobile manufacturing was something to offshore. It's now clear that the argument for preserving that industrial base is not simply nostalgia for a previous bygone era. It simply is the case that you cannot improvise precision manufacturing overnight once it has disappeared.

Actually the SA for Baltimore has been using PPP fraud to lock up gangsters that they haven't been able to get on murder charges. It's why Baltimore finally went below 300 murders a year lol

Depending on how cynical you want to be, the purpose of UN maps in 2026 is either data visualization or virtue signaling, and an equal area projection is a perfectly reasonable choice for either task.
The function of the Mercator map was to enable safe sailing and trade By stretching the poles, you can draw a line between any two points (any two sea ports) and the angle with respect to north will be constant This was called a rhumb line: it’s longer than the shortest line that travels a globe, but you can calculate it very easy This was very useful when it was extremely hard to calculate longitude and ships often got lost. With the Mercator projection, you can just calculate your rhumb line and, even if you get blown off course, you know roughly what angle to be traveling in, so you can find your way This is long outdated technology, but it was extremely important in its day. The new “Equal-area Projection” serves no such practical purpose. It exists to soothe neurotic liberals who are upset that Africa isn’t large enough on Mercator and that this distortion is harmful to Africa Its adoption reflects an affluent society where the underlying purpose of things is forgotten and the only function left is for objects to be symbols that signal belief (liberal beliefs)

electrical engineer here! All components have a built in warning light if you use them wrong enough
A microcontroller IC that overheats, cracks, or catches fire usually indicates a serious electrical fault.

I do think it might go to one's head a bit, the ability to pick up a phone and cause bombs to fall anywhere on the planet in 24 hours or less.
Exclusive: The Trump administration is weighing military action in Mali to target an al-Qaeda-affiliated group, said current and former officials. If approved, it would be the eighth nation that President Trump has ordered strikes on in his second term. wapo.st/4fpIeU1

It is a testament to the utter incompetence of the elected US government that they tried to route taxpayer dollars to gay/trans prostitutes in Asia via USAID when there’s already a very large, rich, broadly popular government organization explicitly for that purpose.

This is a fascinating story btw - classic good-cop/bad-cop managerial pincer move This is Sewell Avery, CEO of Montgomery Ward - a mail-order retailer In 1942, CIO (essentially "FDR's union") won elections to unionize at Montgomery Ward's Chicago facilities The War Labor Board ordered a special wartime contract, in which unions were forbidden to strike, but their memberships were locked in & forced to pay dues for the life of the contract, & labor disputes were subject to mandatory arbitration by a 12-seat board (4 labor, 4 management, & 4 "public") De facto, this meant that union membership (& revenues) were state-guaranteed, & their "walk-away" threat was no longer a strike, but state seizure of the business Of course this massively expanded the unions' economic & political power, & CIO-PAC was basically "the committee to re-elect FDR" Avery's argument was basically, "I sell dresses & sofas & fence posts, how is that a war industry" WLB said that because they sold to *communities* involved in war production, Montgomery Ward was a critical war industry (basically "fuck you, everything is a war industry") FDR leaned on Avery personally, & he complied grudgingly Later that year the administration seized his yacht Lenore for an anti-submarine patroller - but they hung on to it after the war, & it became the presidential pleasure barge for Truman, Eisenhower, & JFK (no shit) In late 1943, Montgomery Ward's contract with CIO expired. With so much labor turnover in retail, Avery argued that CIO no longer represented the majority of his workforce, & demanded new elections before he would negotiate with the union CIO balked, ordered a strike in April 1944, & FDR ordered the seizure of Montgomery Ward's facilities across 7 cities Sewell refused to leave the building, & was carried out by soldiers The War Labor Board gave the buildings back in 1945 of course, but the managerial takeover was complete American labor relations, esp in heavy industry where it was prohibitively expensive to hop jurisdictions - were from then on essentially a negotiation with the politicians The unions were always a tentacle of state power, a catspaw to justify intervention & regulatory capture The machine ate pretty good for a couple decades until containerization & Asian manufacturing came online - it was impossible for industries with giga-scale plants in Illinois & Indiana & Michigan to pivot, & the whole thing dried up & blew away

Professionals who don't compete don't realize just how good you get at the technical skills with even a modest diet of competition to hone them.
