FBS college football returns today in Ireland.
To celebrate, I naturally spent the past two months emailing archives departments to reconstruct one of the sport’s most recondite international tales: Mizzou’s unsanctioned trip to Mexico in 1896. For @ESPN:espn.com/college-football/st…
My watch has officially ended.
FINAL STATS:
— 38 consecutive hours awake (and counting)
— Five games
— Three flights
— Three tarmac delays
— Two states
— Two rental cars
— One heck of a start to the season
Thesis to come for the @ESPN sicko culture bureau 🫡
I am a simple man. Offer me a doubleheader, and I will watch both games of said doubleheader. I’ve got one more in me from Vermillion.
If you thought I was going to be content to let this road trip end with a ranked game at the Pentagon…
I really enjoyed Rock Hill, but the Pentagon having the Michelob Ultra Party Deck™️ looking over the north-facing basket might be a trump card in the Field of 68 marathon venue tale of the tape
Despite two half hour long tarmac delays, you can’t slow down what refuses to be stopped. I have touched down at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for Northern Kentucky vs. UTEP. We sleep in May.
Fun fact: I really hate coffee. So I have now ripped a Dr. Pepper, Sprite, and a caramel frappuccino back-to-back-to-back to keep the energy levels up. I am not looking forward to my next dentist visit.
Anyway, I’m about to hit 24 consecutive hours awake. Not a nap guy either.
No rest for the weary. It is just a hair earlier than 5:30am and we are officially en route to Northern Kentucky/UTEP in South Dakota
For anyone questioning their in-game loyalty: I improvised a potential new option for any of the flip-paper allegiance crew from press row using a legal pad in my backpack and my offer was rebuffed. No glory hunting here.
Do you think there’s anyone out there who decided to get into college basketball for the first time this season and now thinks Isaiah Miranda is the best player in the sport
By far my favorite gimmick I’ve discovered here: taped up tee-shirts that can be flipped to show support for any of four teams
The opening game tonight was billed as a sell out and that was not a misnomer. Both schools bringing their pep bands is helping matters, granted, but this place is LOUD. There’s gonna be a legit atmosphere in here, at least for Game 1. It’s glorious.
The Worldwide Leader is on the scene. Let’s get sicko. Sleep is for the weak.
