Elaine Luria was a Navy commander and a tough questioner on HASC before she was defeated. Now she’s getting started all over again.
If y’all want some weekend reading, here’s a profile I wrote in ‘22. defensenews.com/congress/202…
Thinking about some questions to ask DoD:
1. The Fifth Fleet commander is based in Manama, Bahrain.
2. That base was destroyed in the opening days of the “war” and no casualties were reported.
3. Did the Fifth Fleet Commander evacuate before the US initiated strikes on Iran?
4. Where is the Fifth Fleet commander today?
5. Why is he not embarked on one of the ships in the region?

This victory belongs to you, Virginia.
Thank you to everyone who knocked doors, made calls, and put their all into this race. We couldn’t have done it without you.
“Stay tuned this race is not over,” she said.
Within the hour, however, the crowd had dwindled, and staff turned off the big-screen TV and started shutting things down.”

Yes nothing makes a candidate quake in their boots like winning by the biggest margin in recent memory in a swing district and the losing consultants tweeting something like this. Get a grip man, her team wasn't behaving like this when you won in 2022.
Been a part of some great teams working on campaigns over the years, but team @ElaineLuria 2026 was my favorite.
The best team culture, the most talent pound for pound, the most laughs had, the hardest workers, and true lifelong friendships made. Just a team of absolute DAWGS

“Single digits” (will end at 9+) win in VA-02 now being spun as a problem for Dems. Actually it was the strongest showing for Dems there in 30 years and was bigger than Abigail’s win there last year too. Nice try though.
Will probably go undernoticed given the wave nationally, but Virginia Democrats had sort of an unimpressive performance? Warner won by 22 points, which in isolation is very impressive. But just next door in North Carolina, Dems routed the GOP. Same thing in SC (!) and GA.
Shannon Taylor barely got across the finish line in VA-01, Elaine Luria won VA-02 in the single digits and Tom Periello came up short in VA-05.
The same-sex marriage amendment also passed by far less than I would have thought. It underperformed Warner and abortion which is sort of shocking to me.

Tonight, the voters of Virginia’s Second Congressional District made their voices heard loudly and clearly: The status quo in Washington is not working and voters have shown that Hampton Roads is ready for change. I want to thank every voter who showed up to cast a ballot, every volunteer who made calls and knocked doors, and every supporter who put their time, energy, and heart into this campaign.
Tomorrow, we start righting the ship.

Drinking all day for your favorite teams 6:49 pm kickoff only to later find out it kicks off at nearly 9 pm (at the earliest) would be a real setback for even the most die-hard fans.
Fortunately, LSU fans have trained for these moments since they were kids.
