In 2020, we were fighting just to keep nuclear plants from closing early.
Almost everyone said it was pointless. Nuclear was dying, and that was that.
Now @SecretaryWright is standing in front of a plant talking about squeezing more power out of 15 reactors.
We're restarting plants that were shut down. We're talking about building new ones.
The biggest lesson from watching this turn happen up close:
What looks inevitable usually isn't. It changes when the right group of people decides to care.
.@SecretaryWright: āThe plan is to take 15 reactors at 8 different locations and uprate them. Meaning the plant behind me would get another 150MW of power output...
Significantly more energy, puts downward pressure on rates, allows more manufacturing, more jobs to be created."

A reactor is headed for Mars, America may get its biggest nuclear site ever, and a 40-year waste question got an answer ā¢ļø
All in one week.
- Finland granted the world's first license to operate a deep repository for used nuclear fuel
- @TheNuclearCo proposed a 6.6 GW AP1000 campus in Kentucky, which would be the biggest nuclear site in America
- Amazon, AEP and X-energy are studying 12 reactors at a retired coal plant in Indiana
- Westinghouse is putting $1B into the first new fleet-scale fuel plant in the US in 50+ years
- NASA's SR-1 Freedom, a nuclear-powered spacecraft headed for Mars, keeps moving š
It's crazy how fast this is happening.
America is restarting an entire industry šŗšø

Biggest news in safe nuclear waste disposal ever!
"This is the first operating license anywhere in the world granted for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel."
Huge congrats to Finland for finally answering the question and implementing the solution.
š„ A historic world first! Finland grants #Posiva the first operating licence for spent nuclear fuel final disposal. Over 40 years of work have paid off. Commissioning continues, with safety first.

If youāve been wondering whatās been happening in nuclear at EDF, I appreciated this conversation with Jason Bordoff
In talking through restarts, uprates, and new builds, we explore the special role of EDF, my admiration for the NRC, implications of direct pay ITCs, and more!

Get ready for the next generation of nuclear fuel to be produced at our manufacturing facility in South Carolina!
Westinghouse today announced that we are investing nearly $1 billion to expand our Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility, enabling commercial-scale LEU+ fuel manufacturing. This advanced fuel will increase the power generated and enhance the safety of fuel used at nuclear power plants across the United States.
The expansion also marks a new era for the Columbia facility, where a local workforce of more than 1,200 professionals has been leading nuclear fuel innovation for the past six decades. The site already provides the fuel that accounts for 10% of the entire United Statesā electricity needs. The new LEU+ plant will be the first fleet-scale nuclear fuel factory built in the U.S. in more than 50 years.
Operations are expected to begin in 2030.

Together with @AEPnews and @Amazon, weāre advancing a nearly 1 GW nuclear project in Indiana, our second project under a broader collaboration with Amazon to bring more than 5 GW of new nuclear capacity to the U.S. grid by 2039.
The proposed project would add clean, reliable power to the regional grid, helping meet growing energy demand while creating opportunities for long-term economic development.

Congrats to @xenergynuclear on this morning's announcement with American Electric Power to develop a 960 MW advanced #nuclear energy campus with @amazon in Sullivan County, Indiana!
$XE comes into today's trading session with a ~ $4.2B market cap with close to half of that in cash...
Now has @amazon , @DowNewsroom , @EnergyNorthwest , @AEPnews , @centricaplc on board with @TalenEnergy in discussions... 28 reactors have sites selected with Amazon agreeing to help finance early works at multiple sites. In our view they are the clear leader in the advanced nuclear race. #uranium

Huge milestone! Congrats to @WECNuclear and @NRCgov on the renewed AP1000 certification.
Vogtleās lessons are becoming part of the standard design, giving the next wave of projects a stronger starting point.
The NRC has moved the ball forward. Now developers and constructors need to lead: advance sites with community support, develop credible Class 2 cost estimates, secure financeable offtake, and build the skilled workforce to execute.
Thatās how we turn demand for nuclear into a committed order book.

Congratulations to the General Fusion team @GeneralFusion #GFUZ. Years of hard work paying off. Objectively puts this company at the top of the Fusion pack.
We achieved a world-first! LM26 is the first fusion machine in the world to achieve 1 keV with practical low speed compression. This is a major step forward on General Fusionās commercialization plan to deliver reliable, economical, clean power from fusion energy.
Itās truly an exciting moment for our team. Ā 1 keV, which is more than 12 million degrees Celsius, was our first major milestone for the LM26 program. We worked with UKAEA to design, install, and commission a gold-standard Thomson scattering system on LM26, giving us an accurate, robust measurement.
We also saw meaningful ion heating, and increased density and magnetic field from the compression ā which tells us weāre where we want to be in terms of plasma stability and heating.
All together, the combined results provide further confidence in our core MTF technology principles.
Our CEO Greg Twinney dives into what we achieved, why it matters and whatās next here:Ā generalfusion.com/post/1-kevā¦

Nuclear uprates are suddenly having a moment.
This week, the U.S. Department of Energy announced a conditional loan commitment of up to $4.2 billion to finance uprates and modernization across Vistraās nuclear fleet in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
The projects are expected to add 433 MW of new nuclear capacity while helping preserve nearly 4 GW of existing generation.
It is part of a much broader push. DOEās UPRISE initiative is targeting 2.5 GW of additional nuclear capacity by 2027 and 5 GW by 2029 through uprates, restarts, license extensions and other improvements to the existing fleet.
DOEās financing arm has more than $289 billion in available loan authority and can finance up to 80% of eligible costs for nuclear uprates.
With all this attention and federal financing now flowing toward uprates, it is worth revisiting my Decouple conversation with @jbkrell (James Krellenstein) and @nuclear_robb (W. Robbie Stewart) of @alvaenergyio Energy, one of the companies pursuing this opportunity most aggressively.
Alva believes roughly 10 GW of additional capacity could ultimately be unlocked from the existing U.S. nuclear fleet, with individual uprates adding roughly 250ā300 MW.
The basic proposition is compelling: before waiting a decade to build entirely new reactors, how many gigawatts can we squeeze out of the nuclear plants we already have?
