Austin needs audits that survive. The charter provides precisely the accountability to the voters that the ordinance lacks. Vote aye for Prop I.
This is an important thing to clarify, many are tricked by this! The audit ordinance says you need a supermajority vote to change it but that is not legally enforceable The audit could be cancelled with just 6 votes , here is the mayor explaining this earlier this year

Austin - Vote Against Prop J Claiming to make only technical corrections, Prop J actually reduces home-rule and voter protections: · bundles Charter changes · lets Council rewrite citizen ballot initiatives · removes your right to vote on long-term city debt

There's more to Prop J than the ballot language suggests. The "corrections" remove voter protections: · bundles Charter changes. · lets City Council rewrite citizen ballot initiatives. · removes your right to vote on long-term city debt. Vote Against J. sites.google.com/view/jenrob…
Replying to @JenRobichaux
The lawsuit for the election contest on Prop J is already drafted, one click away from being filed if it passes. The Council chose ballot language that misleads voters and even in this day and age, that’s not legal.

Are you still researching Austin's propositions? The choices are substantial, even the "non-substantive" ones. I've posted the actual amendment language, analyzed the changes, and presented my stances. sites.google.com/view/jenrob…

The City of Austin keeps a database of City Council's voting record. Here's a snapshot of Council votes since the beginning of 2026. This is a fun data set to crunch for anyone interested data.austintexas.gov/City-Go…

I think @RyanAlter and @TheTrueTCB each need a copy.
Apparently telling people to pack a sandwich was controversial… I’d like to address that.

You know a city bureaucracy is broken and unwell when an employee uncovers overpayments to consultants & the city decides to sweep the weak internal control problems under the rug; there are hundreds of complaints to the city auditor's office each year. Vote for Prop I.

Austin has paid a total of $5.51 million to the Sickle Cell Texas Marc Thomas Foundation across fiscal years 2009–2026. If that sounds like a lot, it's because “This contract is funded at 3-4X the rate that contracts providing comparable services are funded.” That cost criticism comes verbatim from the City's own contract reviewer. It wasn't the only warning. Across 16 claim records from April 2022 through July 2023, the reviewer criticized the cost five different times. arclightaction.com/insights/…

An anthem for all the politicians who lure in voters with empty platitudes and hollow promises. "I Want to Conquer the World" by Bad Religion sums it up. 🎶 Hey, Brother Christian, with your high and mighty errand. Your actions speak so loud, I can't hear a word you're saying. Hey, Sister Bleeding Heart, with all of your compassion. Your labors soothe the hurt but can't assuage temptation. Hey, man of science, with your perfect rules of measure. Can you improve this place with the data that you gather? Hey, Mother Mercy, can your loins bear fruit forever? Is your fecundity a trammel or a treasure? And I want to conquer the world, Give all the idiots a brand new religion, Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil, Promote equality in all of my decisions With a quick wink of the eye And a "God, you must be joking!" Hey, Mr. Diplomat, with your worldly aspirations. Did you see your children cry when you left them at the station? Hey, moral soldier, you've got righteous proclamations, And precious tomes to fuel your pulpy conflagrations. And I want to conquer the world, Give all the idiots a brand new religion, Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil, Promote equality in all of my decisions I want to conquer the world, Expose the culprits and feed them to the children, Do away with air pollution and then I'll save the whales. We'll have peace on earth and global communion. I want to conquer the world! 🎵 youtu.be/xBqmTb57v2s?si=8pKV…

Charter & ordinances work together like the Constitution & federal statutes. Would anyone say the 15th Amendment is pointless because Congress had already passed the Civil Rights Act (1866) and Reconstruction Acts (1867)? One protects the future, the other protects the present.
Austin is debating whether we need an audit by ordinance or by charter. We actually need BOTH. Ordinance 20260226-050 acknowledges the need for an audit. Prop i locks it into the charter so that efficient and affordability assessments become standard operating procedure. 1/

Launch an expensive study for what only takes one walk down Red River to figure out. Vote for Prop I and @katiekam4austin and watch Red River thrive.
Austin council member Zo Qadri wants to study why Red River businesses keep closing. Easy fix: ask his political buddy DA José Garza. He's had a front-row seat to every crime he didn't prosecute and every repeated criminal released to roam and terrorize this area. @downtownatx @DowntownATXInfo

Same pattern after the 15th Amendment. The Enforcement Acts gave it teeth. When those statutes were weakened, the constitutional amendment still gave people a claim to point to. Prop i does the same thing locally. It turns "we should audit" into "the charter requires it." 7/

Details matter and the hierarchy is the safeguard. Broad charter language + specific ordinance = a system that can adapt without losing the requirement That’s how we give people lasting recourse while still letting the city respond to changing conditions. Vote Aye For Prop I
