Gracelyn Laudermilch submitted a letter to Judge Wilken yesterday describing the human cost of roster limits and how the promised protections of DSA status have proved illusory for her and many others. Many of you will remember Gracelyn as one of the faces of the athletes fighting to keep their roster spots. Now, she writes that she has lost hers at Liberty—even with DSA status. I’m truly saddened by this. I’ve gotten to know Gracelyn, and she is an incredible young woman and a leader who has stood up for countless athletes beyond herself. Any track programs out there should consider reaching out to her. She has so much to offer, on and off the track.
So excited to welcome @theworldlabs and @drfeifei to the @AMD family! I’ve always been a huge fan of Fei-Fei and her pioneering research in AI. Together, we’ll combine World Labs’ deep expertise in AI and world models with AMD’s compute leadership to power the future of AI and strengthen the open AI ecosystem. Can’t wait for all we’ll accomplish!

NEW: The Senate is on the verge of passing the "Protect College Sports Act" after lobbying from Amazon, Disney, Paramount and more.
The bill would cap player compensation, but fails to address massive coach salaries, buyouts, or private equity.
Actual college athletes have been left out of the process, so while the NCAA would get an anti-trust exemption, players wouldn't get a seat at the table.
We talked to Stanford football players to learn more.

Former NFL players’ association chief DeMaurice Smith and I write about how the Protect College Sports Act protects nothing more than a deeply exploitative system that hurts athletes.

The Protect College Sports Act sells out athletes and bails out the NCAA. If this bill becomes law, the same actors who exploited college athletes for decades will emerge with more power, and college athletes will emerge with less.

Presidents of Dayton and Saint Mary’s penned an op-ed in reaction to lawmakers seriously discussing as part of the Senate bill a $25 million retention pool for schools to spend in addition to the $21.3 million cap.

Not gonna lie, the basket of beef jerky reference was gold! 🧺 There most definitely are some interesting characters in this story, all of whom fought the best they knew how to save a team that deserved saving. 🐎 💚
These student athletes - like so many across the US right now - are collateral damage in a post #HouseVsNCAA environment that prioritizes profit and politics over everything else.

And the fact that many of them made the best of a horrible situation and continued to compete on the club team and ended up winning first place at the Collegiate Club Nationals - after being completely self coached.
As the parent of a @CalPoly swim recruit who was devastated when she learned the team had been cut, what gets lost in this story is the impact to the student athletes and how much they fought to advocate on social media and otherwise to save their team.

Are @CalPoly's swimming & diving teams too expensive to save?
Are they too toxic to save?
Is the distinction important?

This entire conversation taking place with Congress and the conferences has left out a key player in all of this: the actual players on the field! None of this is going to pass muster with the courts even if it passes. Let’s fast forward to the stage when the players and leagues begin to collectively bargain which is inevitable nytimes.com/athletic/7461727…
I’d love to see more Olympians come out in opposition to the #PCSA. Setting 24/25 as the benchmark for Title IX compliance disregards how many schools are woefully out of compliance (and newsflash, they were in 24/25 too).
US Olympian Katie Uhlaender comes out in opposition to the Protect College Sports Act.
