👉Politics should be about more than teams, personalities, & outrage.
🔎I write about Texas politics through the lens of principle: research, policy analysis, commentary, & liberty. See what I’m working on: JeramyKitchen.com
Texas is committing ~$51 billion over two years to maintain & expand property tax relief, yet school M&O taxes remain.
Texans need a plan that reduces the government’s reliance on property taxes & reins in the spending that drives the burden. #txlege
(🧵1/7) #txlege lawmakers have committed billions to property tax relief, but they have been reluctant to confront the spending that drives the tax burden.
The result: a growing state commitment to relief while Texans continue to face substantial property tax burdens.

The state is asking a court to ban minors from using ChatGPT, even when their parents approve. That is the government attempting to usurp parental responsibility under the banner of "child protection."
Parents should decide what is right for their children. Texas should NOT become the digital parent. #txlege
(🧵1/9) Texas Attorney General @KenPaxtonTX has sued @OpenAI, alleging that the company misled Texans about ChatGPT’s safety & failed to provide protections required for minors.
The lawsuit also seeks restrictions that raise broader questions about parental rights & access to AI. #txlege

Don’t miss my recent conversation with host @juliecbarrett of the Fine Print Podcast. We discuss problems with government-mandated age verification and the need for less government dependency. Empower parents, not bureaucrats.
This week on the Fine Print Podcast, Vance Ginn makes the case for empowering parents, not bureaucrats, when it comes to kids, technology, and age-verification mandates.
In this episode Vance explains why digital ID requirements take power out of parents’ hands, the real trade-offs of these laws, and why government is poorly positioned to parent.

How long can the government hold someone awaiting an immigration decision without an individualized bond hearing?
The Fifth Circuit’s latest ruling raises consequential questions about enforcement authority, physical liberty, & constitutional limits. Our breakdown below⤵️
(🧵1/8) The Fifth Circuit has upheld mandatory immigration detention without individualized bond hearings for certain people awaiting removal proceedings, including longtime residents who entered unlawfully. #txlege

It angers me that politicians are using "protecting children" as their way to sell digital ID and mass surveillance.
They absolutely know what they are doing with these policies. By the time people realize just how bad and consequential these laws are we will be so far down the road, it will be impossible to put that genie back in the bottle.
Wake up
They’re using “protect the kids” to pass 1984-style state surveillance policies.
Age verification, parent-child linking, device-level tracking, and government-mandated data collection — all required so platforms can enforce the rules. By the time most people realize what was actually built, the systems are already in place.

Name the president? Easy. Name your district attorney? A member of the local school board? For most of us, those are tougher questions.
And as our new video explains, that’s a problem — because, on many of the issues we care about, they have more power than the White House.
Why Local Government Often Matters More than Washington
State and local government officials often have more influence over your life than Washington politicians — which is why it’s a problem that everyone ignores them.

In collaboration with @Transparency_US we built a Texas voter turnout app so everyday people can easily see election insights the same way we share campaign finance data. Breakdowns by statewide, Congressional, SBOE, TX House, TX Senate, and county. Updates daily as new data is published by the state and county websites.

Picking winners and losers in property taxes like what @DanPatrick promotes is politics at its worst. This is a bad plan for Texas.
Similar flawed measures have raised, not lowered, property taxes over the last decade.
A better way: spend less, impose strict state and local spending growth limits, use surpluses for compression, and shift to sales taxes to fund limited government.

.@DanPatrick is up with this new property tax-focused spot that touts his Double Nickel reform plan for 90(R). #txlege
Texas Comptroller Don Huffines has launched a new portal for reporting fraud, waste, & abuse.
Texas already has several reporting mechanisms. The question is how this new system fits into existing oversight & whether it will produce measurable results for taxpayers. Our breakdown 👇
(🧵1/9) Texas Comptroller @DonHuffines has launched a whistleblower portal allowing Texans to report suspected government fraud, waste, abuse, corruption, & tax evasion. But Texas already has several mechanisms for reporting wrongdoing. So what's different?

Your vote does not belong to a political party.
Voting independently, supporting a "third party", or withholding support does not make your vote someone else’s property.
Want my vote? EARN IT. The “other side is worse” does not excuse everything.

Texas is appealing the federal order to air-condition every state prison by 2029. The appeal raises real questions about the reach of federal courts, but it doesn’t pause the deadline or settle the funding decisions waiting for the #txlege in January. 👇
(🧵1/10) Texas has appealed a federal order requiring air conditioning throughout the state prison system by Dec. 31, 2029, & is asking for the deadline to be paused while the Fifth Circuit reviews the case. Here’s what the state is arguing & what it means for #txlege.
