This is a town of three stoplights, five gas stations, five Mexican restaurants, and five churches. It is — or was — 45% Latino.
Yet within a year of the flood, the town’s tiny PD had delivered the equivalent of 10% of Ingram to ICE.

Thrilled to share that the UK edition of THERE IS NO PLACE FOR US is out now.
Though the book is based in Atlanta, the forces pushing people into homelessness extend far beyond the US. So, too, does the growing movement fighting for safe, affordable housing as a basic right.

Toforest Johnson’s death sentence was commuted in Alabama today.
Gov. Kay Ivey acknowledged concerns about the evidence that led to his 1998 conviction.
Johnson’s case is the subject of @bshelburne’s Bone Valley Season 4, Earwitness.

Toforest Johnson's death sentence was commuted over concerns he might be innocent, and those concerns are mainly public because of @bshelburne's incredible journalism.

Arkansas GOP sheriff nominee Aaron Spencer tracked down Michael Fosler, a child sex abuser out on bond, and shot him after finding his missing 13-year-old daughter in Fosler's truck. A judge dismissed the murder charge after deputies lost a dash-cam memory card. Great story by @JessPish slate.com/news-and-politics/…
Missouri has kicked this around for a while. It would make sheriffs harder to abolish, harder to remove from office, and give a pretextual excuse to sue the state for laws.

Stocks is serving three consecutive life sentences. His only recourse now is clemency from the governor of Arkansas. A court did not consider his abuse, and the extent of what Walls did was not known.
Incredible reporting by the Wall Street Journal on how the Department of Homeland Security gives local police departments as much as $2 million for each immigration arrest through its 287(g) program: wsj.com/us-news/immigration-…

Happening now during a school hours. Masked ICE agents harassing families and children. By 11th Ave & NW 1st street in Little Havana, Miami.

I, once again, asked Miami’s Mayor Eileen Higgins and city commissioners to end the 287g agreement signed last year establishing local police collaboration with ICE. Higgins campaigned on this issue but now refuses to address it, and won’t even meet with groups advocating on it.

Her son had to ditch a college football scholarship to take care of his family after Tarrant County charged a Black women for voting while on supervised release and sentenced Crystal Mason to five years in prison. Her vote never counted. Election workers didn't spot that she was ineligible to vote and gave her a provisional ballot. Meanwhile a white man from Delaware, who registered his dead mother to vote for Trump in the 2020 election, got .... *checks notes* five years probation. phillyvoice.com/voter-fraud-…
Breaking news: The nearly decade-long case of Crystal Mason, a Black Texas woman who was sentenced to five years in prison in a controversial illegal voting case will end with an acquittal, the state’s highest criminal court said on Thursday. theguardian.com/us-news/2026…
