I feel more relaxed doing activities (ie hiking) with fellow paramedics and ambulance crew because I’m not the sole *responsible person* if any bad things happen? Otherwise I feel constantly in anticipation of a *bad thing* happening and managing it despite being off duty.
This year in total I’ve swam 49,319m, cycled 1,241km and ran 536km. Which means if I’d put it all together I could’ve got to my favourite city, Copenhagen. But I didn’t. I mainly went round in circles. Happy New Year friends.
I seem to have unfortunately developed a fear of choking (myself and others) and by association dense meats. Not an unfounded fear but very problematic. Roast beef with the family tomorrow is already making me nervous. Anyone else relate?
Been feeling pretty flat the last week or so. This time of year is tough. Went for a walk in the sunshine. Dreading the next run of shifts and working Xmas day. I want all my patients actually completely fine and can stay at home happy and well. Please. 😭
One of the most upsetting ends to a shift I’ve ever had. Came across a poor black and white cat that had been hit and killed by a car and left in the road. A 30mph road in between housing estates. We stopped and moved poor kitty. Passing police officers rang the council.
Getting up at 6am to go out in the wind rain and cold to run a 10km seemed like a good way to spend a Sunday morning 🤪 got a PB too 😎
Second day was equally as good. Confidence levels for dealing with maternity patients has improved massively. Cannot recommend this course enough!
Brilliant first day on @_ALSG_ POET course - really lovely bunch of candidates and faculty. And our hotel sent us off with packed breakies 😂 always fun being the only paramedics and sharing insights back and forwards between in hospital colleagues.

Just discovered after 3 years of having “reading” glasses that I should have in fact been wearing them the whole time 🙃. No wonder I’ve been getting headaches.
Sorry what? Only 66% of pregnant or recently pregnant women who died in the UK 2021-2023 had post mortems? Why?? I assumed all would have PMs??
(Don’t ask me why the 2025 MBRRACE report is my current bedtime reading)
1 full week of doing very little and not leaving the house and I’m just about back to normal. I’ve read 4 books, listened to 4 audiobooks, finished 1 piece of knitting, watched 1 series of Dexter and had 1 panic attack thinking I was having a PE. 😂
That explains the 5 days and counting being fatigued AF.
Tyson Furry reckons @RealBobMortimer new book smells like a goodun, although he has heard some things about this Goodmonson fellow.
Forgive me a whinge but…
I’m so fed up. Starting to go down with something (sore throat, fatigue, headache). Of course it starts on my days off. I’ve had to cancel seeing my oldest friend and her baby because I don’t want to risk bringing bugs near her. I’ve been nowhere except
Today: one patient (mid 80s) said she wanted to be like me when she grew up (re: my tattoos etc); one GP referred to us as “heroes” for our thorough concern for welfare checking (inc climbing a fence); one patient criticised us for “turning up in the dark”. 🤷🏼♀️
