Got into screenwriting 6 years ago
Knew I’d return to creator education
Creator development best-practices don’t include contests
I’ve successfully taught this at-scale
Barked at script contests for 6 years w/ no platform so they can’t call me a bully when I scale it again 🥰

For the first time in history, the third quarter of the domestic box office crossed the $3B mark.
Driven by a surging summer slate from Jul through Sept, moviegoers spent $3.072B—crushing the previous 2016 record and jumping roughly 27% compared to last year.
Way to go! 🥹🍿

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

With everything you see going on and beginning to happen, remember:
You were built for this.

Fox: Why are you here this morning?
Trump rally attendee: Well, in the late 70s, I was a little too young to go to South America for the Jonestown Massacre. But this is as close as I'll ever get, so that's why I'm here. There's nothing like seeing a cult right up front.

On my way to pick up my AFF badge! This is tonight’s outfit - if you see me, come say hey!
(This worked well for me to meet people the last time I came to Austin but that was 2024 - is screenwriting twitter dead enough that posts like this are useless??)

As a writer one of the most infuriating aspects of this industry (and honestly it’s not just execs who do this, it’s everyone) is the way writers are treated at best like nuisances but SCRIPTS are treated with reverence and as though they just somehow spontaneously appeared

Truly honored to be a finalist in the Paramount Writers Mentoring program. This is such an amazing program run by Carole Kirschner, who also does the WGA Showrunner Training program. Can’t wait to move the goalposts.

Throw caution to the wind.
Give a nod to the Gods.
And hit Send.
The response rate is low.
The void of no response is the norm.
But this cold query script crossed the gator filled moat.
Off to the Voodoo Shop for mojo.

Fellow photo nerds, I’ve partnered with dear friends @rianjohnson and Eric Cameron to make a bespoke iPhone still camera app: Chromagraph Camera. It’s the camera we wanted for ourselves and we’re making it available for purchase on the App Store. apps.apple.com/app/apple-sto…

Fighting for the rights of dogs have taught me to step into my power. I have kept this a secret for years but for the past 7 years of me going to @austinfilmfest I would receive a threatening email from a fake email the day before to say I will be attacked if I went to try to scare me to not go. For years I know the person/organization behind these horrific emails and this year I will address that person right to his face.

DIGGER (2026) feels like the kind of original, completely unhinged Hollywood movie that barely gets made anymore. Tom Cruise and Iñárritu making something this weird is exactly what cinema needs.

So I recently badgered my cinematographer @steveyedlin into making my ideal iPhone still camera app. It shoots RAW, bypasses the iPhone's look processing and instead uses the same image processing we use on our movies. apps.apple.com/app/apple-sto…

it's not that other people don't have problems, it's that they didn't use them as excuses to give up.
if you can't understand this you'll never achieve anything.

You can hate on military movies or Pratt all you want but I actually think we need more movies like this. Specifically, the live action PG and PG-13 movie. Everything now is edgy and R and for adults or a cartoon. If Karate Kid came out today you’d have a bunch of A24 disciples on Twitter talking about how bad it looks. This isn’t for you. We need more live action movies that kids and their parents can watch together. We’ve lost the Sandlots and Mighty Ducks and Mrs Doubtfires. I hope, at the very least, this does well enough to green light more family friendly movies.
