I knew how to make a burger. Salt, pepper, patties, grill. But I raised this lamb, and I wanted to do right by it. New Patio Pondering: More Than Salt and Pepper. patiopondering.com/writings/…

I don't know what is more nerve wracking. Waiting for your Annual Review meeting or for the combine mechanics to arrive t diagnose electronics.

From rural Oklahoma veterinarian to anthrax research and Homeland Security. That wasn't the plan for Dr. Kimothy Smith. We ponder biosecurity, unexpected career opportunities, leadership, and the importance of saying yes. 🎙️ That Wasn't the Plan! patiopondering.com/podcast/t…

I'm having to eat crow. I'm at a standstill with harvest because the elctronic header controls on our Gleaner are not working. Even the older equipment can have electronic issues.

No harvesting today, all the soybeans we have yet to harvest are on Amish ground. Catch up and relax day for us.

Sitting here on a sunny Sunday morning Pondering on The Patio about the NASS announcement about mistakes in the September report. Lots of speculation about how it happened i.e. fewer employees, few survey responses, etc. The problem is that it happened at all!

Saving money on your parts can be as easy as a dm or text to me. Shoot me any info you can, and give us a little time to research. Let me know where we can help. There are millions of sku’s from multiple suppliers we have access to. We can’t put everything on our website, would take a room full of people and more people = more overhead. I would rather keep that overhead cost in your pocket.

Pretty cool view from my son-in-law's combine cab. A 12 row head can eat some corn!

Did the pork industry become so good at raising pigs that it forgot about selling pork? I put that question to K-State economist @TonsorGlynn. We talked meat demand, beef vs. pork, consumer behavior, and a few assumptions of mine. patiopondering.com/podcast/i…

Harvest 2026 is underway! Just not in Indiana. We're in southeast Nebraska celebrating our granddaughter's first birthday, and I had the opportunity to help my son-in-law harvest soybeans while our Indiana fields dry out. Different terrain, same objective. Those terraces make harvesting interesting! jksmithfamilyfarms.com/news-…

Middle of harvest, interest rates possibly rising. What's this promotion signalling?

Why do we call it shredded beef and pulled pork and not pulled beef and shredded pork?
