My colleague @CollingsPaige wrote for the @thedailybeast about the impending UK legislation that would break encryption to 'protect kids.' thedailybeast.com/crackdowns…
I'll be speaking at a webinar tomorrow 10:30am PT about the @USPTO's proposed new rules for patent challenges tomorrow, together with folks from @unifiedpatents and @linuxfoundation. If you want to learn more, please come! sign up here: linuxfoundation.org/blog/sta…
These new @UPSTO proposed rules would be damaging to all builders & users of new technology, including open source devs. That's why we're proud to stand with @linuxfoundation which has their own commentary and call to action here: linuxfoundation.org/blog/sta…
These proposed rules would sabotage IPR, the best system we have to challenge wrongly granted patents. Please join me and tell @uspto that they harm the public good.
Tell @USPTO to work for the public, not patent trolls. eff.org/deeplinks/2023/06/ou…

The Kids Online Safety Act is too subjective, leaving content regulation to 50 state attorneys general who could censor content on anything from abortion to guns. “I think the First Amendment threats are that clear,” EFF’s @JoeMullin told @dcexaminer. washingtonexaminer.com/news/…
This is so great—this SLAPP suit has been knocked out after seven long years. And @greenpeaceusa never stopped speaking out about the cause. They are really a model for other orgs facing SLAPPs. Go Greenpeace!
UPDATE: WE WON! 🎉
For 7 years, @GreenpeaceUSA has been battling a lawsuit designed to silence us just for speaking out. But it just made us LOUDER!
While it's a major victory for us, there's still work to do to ensure we #StopSLAPPs and end corporate bullying for everyone.

The EARN IT Act, which will undermine encryption and privacy for all internet users, is back. eff.org/deeplinks/2023/04/ea…
Encryption is under attack in the UK, EU and the USA right now. Great to see this clear message on the UK threat from @signalapp and @WhatsApp and other messaging apps .
It's pretty mind blowing that the Alameda County DA, the elected chief of one of the most powerful law enforcement agencies in California is sending out *multiple emails per week* to attack a 1-person journalism operation.
Folks: The @PPriceCares campaign is spreading misinformation about my reporting and urging supporters to sign up for a conversation I'm having April 15 w/@Linton_Johnson @OvisNews re: trust and accountability in journalism. RSVP: ovisnews.com/event-details/t…
Alameda County absolutely needs a progressive prosecutor that reflects community values. Sentencing reform is needed. But @PPriceCares, who I voted for, has shown she is not the right person to get this job done, and has lost my support due to her attacks on the press.

European Parliament expert report delivers a rare, damning verdict on EU Commission's legislative plans to combat online child abuse imagery. Confirms what experts suspected all along: Ineffective approach and infringement of user rights.

Pathetic to see SFGATE just publish attacks against reporters doing actual journalism—including, yes, talking to dissidents. "Progressive" prosecutors should be scrutinized too. @BerkeleyScanner is unearthing new facts not whining or attacking writers. sfgate.com/politics/article/…
Berkeley Scanner calls Price *all the time* to ask about her positions. She won't! Meanwhile Alex Shultz, who I guess thinks he's "progressive," talks shit about actual journalists without even asking for comment.
Finally, I would note that @PPriceCares sent out an email highlighting this @SFGate attack on the journalists who actually cover her. What a lucky day for her! Praise and no questions
New stupid patent just dropped. Come for the SPOTM, stay for the five (5) fee awards against the patent-asserting attorney: eff.org/deeplinks/2023/03/st…

I know two people (Bay Area) who saw this as their top TikTok video this morning, in a spot usually reserved for ads. Is this widespread? Is it promoted content? tiktok.com/@sayheyjames/vide… (The video has at least some info that's not accurate.)
The State of California stands accused of 'attempting to offer cheaper, more abundant housing.' Oh The Horror. huntington beach is the worst place
I have no doubt SF has over-regulated some industries but @BirdRide in particular is no great loss. Like, truly no great loss. sfchronicle.com/sf/bayarea/h…
It's just weird to pick what seems like a pretty badly run, lashing-out startup like @birdride to make the point of "oh SF sucks so bad for business." xitter.cf/alisongriswold/status/…
To be clear - I'm linking to @alisongriswold's very good reporting as evidence of the point that Bird is a hot mess—it's the Chronicle that I think is making a weird point.
