Mer de Glace 1969 | 2024 We are a world away from the 20th century climate, already in uncharted territories, and that's just the beginning! 😱 Losing glaciers through sole human emission should make us take action 🛑 But we are apathetic... 📷 @glacionaut

The (former) Mer du Glace above Chamonix. When I first came here this valley was filled with ice. We are all responsible for this & yet I can hear helicopters carrying building supplies & ski infrastructure building work going on non-stop. We don’t learn (& I include myself)

Last week Red Bull built a gigantic ski jump on a ski slope in Akureyri, Iceland. Ryōyū Kobayashi flew 291 meters and was in the air for over 10 seconds. The video is magnificent.

Let's rejoice in the paltry benefits of ransacking everything (just) before there's nothing left! 🔥 This is the new Montenvers lower station, as close as possible to the remaining ice. Cost: 53 M euros Ice gone: 10 years from now at best Pic: @ledauphine

I love how working as a lawyer is saying “this week is busy, but it will eventually slow down again” to yourself until you die.

For years I’ve been struggling with a paradox that seems fundamental to our age. We live under a system that celebrates freedom and choice. Yet almost everyone in a position of power or influence subscribes to the same set of preposterous beliefs. Thread/
