There's a small window in life when your parents are healthy, your children are little, and everyone is happy and together. It feels like it will last forever, it won’t. Cherish every moment of it.

All of the current discourse comes back to AI Sovereignty
Our thoughts on the importance of AI sovereignty. 1. Your AI sovereignty dictates your institution’s future. Sovereignty is the precondition for choice. Relinquishing sovereignty transfers the future choices of your institution to others, who are likely to exploit it for their gain and your loss. 2. Data retention is your treasure. Transfer it at your own peril. Your ability to win is dictated by your ability to recognize and use your unique edges, and you keep winning by compounding the underlying data to generate new insights. Transferring that data hands over access to your pre-existing winning plays and yields the means of production for new ones. 3. Tokenmaxxing hijacks your value orientation and decreases your institutional fortitude and intelligence. The pursuit of high token usage incentivizes disposable scripts over robust software — with the addictive feeling of false progress. There is a reason why those selling tokens refuse to charge based on value. 4. Controlling your weights is controlling your fate. Weights are the distilled form of hard-won, accumulated institutional knowledge. If you let others control your weights, you are allowing them to migrate the alpha of your business to theirs. 5. There is no contradiction between sovereignty and alpha. The architecture that maximally preserves sovereignty is one that enables institutions to own their tribal knowledge, and to compound it as alpha. 6. Politicizing the technical issues involving sovereignty is what your adversary wants. Techno-politicization is the wellspring of false sovereignty. Techno-politicization drives decisions that seem to reduce dependency, but ultimately limit agency — especially on the battlefield in the West. 7. Real expertise is existential. Allowing politics or favoritism to determine your technical decisions rewards whoever is best at politics, not whoever is right. Listen to those closest to the problems, not those speaking most compellingly about them. 8. Learn from institutions that are winning or that have consistently delivered. Institutions facing existential threats do not have the luxury of making technical decisions based on political preferences. 9. Only listen to institutions, countries, and people who have a proven record of being right. A track record of correctness is the best and only signal for future correctness. Judging something as right or wrong based on who you like is exceedingly misguided.

The world is going to be alright, guys. Keep having kids, loving your family, and starting and building businesses and institutions. Don’t live in fear. Leaders have big responsibilities and challenges ahead, but it doesn’t help to scare everyone. We are on top of it.

If you want to be great at running your business, learn how to reconcile to the 💲Penny and to the 📎unit.
This one page changed my life. 42 years ago today, it convinced my parents I shouldn't go back to college. I started by upgrading PCs from a dorm room. Today @Dell is helping build the infrastructure that powers AI, from the edge to some of the world's largest AI factories. You never know which small decision will change everything. Keep building🚀🙏 #PlayNiceButWin

I was fortunate to be in the room this morning. @PalantirTech and @nvidia are leading US commercial business in the right direction. Every time I think back on the COVID lockdowns and how close we came to losing basic freedoms, digital sovereignty among them, I find myself more tuned in to industry leaders who stand up for meritocratic, American values even when it costs them. Alex Karp is uniquely opinionated, and he puts his money where his mouth is. I feel extremely grateful to have brought my business onto Palantir.
Palantir’s Alex Karp: “Every single decision we have made was to be fully aligned with our partners. That means that the products have to work. That requires enterprises to actually own what they produce. You can’t be paying someone and then your reward is that they get to replicate your business. It’s absolutely crazy. We think there is an alternative way of doing this that actually creates more value for an enterprise. We think this will be the most important thing in AI, sovereign AI, owning the value that you produce.” - Institutional Sovereignty In The Age of AI

How do you get everyone in the company, from the most junior hire through the executive team, to make the decision the founder would make? When making a sale. When buying from a vendor. Or how to treat each other. That was the first real battle of my career and it had nothing to do with software. It was culture. Values clear enough to survive translation to someone who has never met you. Agentic AI is that exact problem at machine speed. LLMs are remarkably human, which means they align like people and they drift like people. Your agents are filtering decisions through someone's values whether you chose them or not. @PalantirTech the only company I've seen encode real sovereignty at the agentic decision layer at scale. Almost nobody is in this conversation yet or even understands. Soon every person running a company or organization will know it deeply.
If you can do that, you will take the power of your decision making to a whole other level. In many cases, you will be able to test how that principle would have worked in the past or in various situations that will help you refine it, and in all cases, it will allow you to compound your understanding to a degree that would otherwise be impossible. It will also take emotion out of the equation. Algorithms work just like words in describing what you would like to have done, but they are written in a language that the computer can understand. If you don’t know how to speak this language, you should either learn it or have someone close to you who can translate for you. Your children and their peers must learn to speak this language because it will soon be as important or more important than any other language. #principleoftheday

Protect Your Sovereignty
For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter. AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country. Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty. The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models. images.nvidia.com/pdf/Open-W…

Mike Brown has been to seven NBA Finals with four different organizations. He’s coached LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Steph Curry, Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant, and Jalen Brunson. When asked what all championship teams have in common, his answer had nothing to do with those nuclear talents. “The commonality they all had is they all sacrificed for one another. They were all connected. They all had a competitive spirit. And there was a high level of belief... Not just in the process, but in each other.” He was able to boil down years of success in different places to 4 common traits: 🩸 Sacrifice 🎮 Connectivity ⚠️ Ownership ✝️ Belief Championship teams don't win solely because they have the best player. They create a championship environment from ownership starting with the best player all the way to the last player on the bench. The entire organization is willing to surrender something for something bigger than themselves. You need good players, yes... But talent only determines your ceiling. Sacrifice determines your capacity to reach it.
