Patrick Troughton’s first official day recording Doctor Who took place on 22nd October 1966 at Riverside Studios. He was filming his debut serial, The Power of the Daleks. To maintain an air of mystery, the BBC kept his exact look strictly under wraps and hidden from the public before broadcast!
On set, Radio Times photographer Don Smith captured Troughton in his dishevelled "Cosmic Hobo" costume. The recording session itself was said to have been intense. Troughton arrived on set with a plaster covering a finger injury sustained during rehearsals!

Bad news: the BBC is set to scrap Radio 4 Extra. 📻 Losing this treasure trove of classic comedy, archive drama, and timeless storytelling would be a huge blow for millions of us.

The New Avengers began #OTD 50 years ago. I loved this show, its style and charm, its fast-paced storytelling and fantastical adventures. Those freeze-frame titles were a classy touch, too. #NewAvengersat50
