Luke Mitchell:
“If it was put to me that I would almost be guaranteed release and parole if all I did was admit guilt. Absolutely not. I would not do that.
I will not admit to something I’ve not done.
I will maintain my innocence and if that means that I stay in closed conditions for the rest of my life if need be, then that’s what will happen.”
23 years in prison.
Luke’s position is clear: he will not falsely admit guilt to secure his freedom.
He says he would rather remain in closed conditions for the rest of his life than make an admission to a crime he did not commit.
That is the position he has maintained for over two decades, and that is the position he will continue to maintain.
Luke will not trade his innocence for his freedom.

Corinne Mitchell was just 67 when she died on 9 July 2026.
In this clip from only 6 years ago, Corinne speaks about her fears of not seeing her son acquitted and free, she said that ultimately, it is in the hands of fate.
Sadly her fears became reality.
Now, the fight for Luke’s freedom continues without his mum here to see it. What happens next is in the hands of those willing to listen, look at the evidence and ask the difficult questions.
Corinne’s hope for her son didn’t die with her.
Luke’s freedom is now in the public’s hands.

Three very different voices, but all pointing to the same uncomfortable question: was Luke Mitchell’s conviction ever as secure as it was presented? They don’t seem to believe it was.
In this clip, Sam Poling BBC investigative Journalist, and Roy Ram, Commander of Specialist Operations, who held vast operational responsibilities over the Met's most elite units discuss the case and the evidence surrounding Luke’s conviction.
And then there is Lord Scott, he is a prominent Scottish judge who has been a Senator of the College of Justice since May 2022. Notably, he made history as the first-ever Solicitor Advocate to be appointed directly to the Supreme Courts of Scotland
His conclusion was that:
“For a whole host of reasons we are left with an unsatisfactory conviction.”
That is a powerful statement coming from a senior Scottish legal figure.
After 23 years, Luke is still in prison for a murder he has always maintained he did not commit.
And when significant people raise serious concerns about the conviction, those concerns deserve to be heard.
Watch the clip. Listen to what they say.
Then ask yourself why, after all these years, there is still so much that remains unresolved about Luke Mitchell’s conviction.

Her fight may have come to an end, but ours has not.
Now it’s up to every one of us to carry the torch she has left behind. We cannot allow everything she sacrificed and everything she fought for to be forgotten.

Today, we wish Luke Mitchell a happy birthday.
Birthdays are usually a time for family, freedom, and looking forward to the future. For Luke, it is another birthday spent behind prison walls while he continues to maintain his innocence.
No matter where you stand on the case, everyone deserves confidence that justice has been done. That is why so many people continue to support the campaign for an independent review of the evidence and for every unanswered question to be examined fairly and transparently.
On his birthday, we hope that Luke can take strength from knowing that he has not been forgotten. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the pursuit of truth, fairness, and justice.
Happy Birthday, Luke. We hope this is the last birthday you spend in prison.

Remembering Jodi Jones 🕊️
3 January 1989 – 30 June 2003
Today we remember Jodi Jones, whose life was taken far too soon at just 14 years old.
May she be remembered for the life she lived, not only for the tragedy that ended it.
Gone, but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, Jodi. 🤍

The resignation of Dorothy Bain is the right decision.
For years, serious concerns were and are present around the handling of Luke Mitchell’s case, and public confidence was further damaged by the clear conflict involving Bain and her husband, Alan Turnbull, who was the lead prosecutor in Luke’s original trial. Bain was appointed in 2021 the same year the evidence in Luke’s case was erroneously destroyed.
No justice system can expect the public to trust decisions on a contested conviction when the country’s most senior law officer was so closely connected to the original prosecution.
The Luke Mitchell case will continue to raise major unanswered questions involving the crown institution until accountability is taken.
• undisclosed evidence destroyed during her appointment
• witness statements withheld from the defence and sccrc questions stonewalled.
• forensic DNA evidence belonging to other male(s) ignored.
• the handling of alternative suspects were and are non existent.
Scotland’s justice system must be independent and seen to be independent.
Dorothy Bain stepping down is an acknowledgment that these concerns could no longer be ignored.
Now the focus must turn to what should come next: A full, independent review of Luke Mitchell’s conviction and those involved in his wrongful conviction put in prison.

Luke
They took him young, just fifteen years,
And left him trapped in walls of fears.
A boy whose laughter should have soared,
Confined in shadows, all ignored.
The system spoke with papered lies,
While truth was hidden from our eyes.
Deception whispered through the halls,
As innocence was made to crawl.
His mother watched through endless nights,
Enduring cruelty, wrongful fights.
Each day a struggle, harsh and long,
A boy undone by all that’s wrong.
Locked in darkness, a cell so tight,
A small world drowned in pain and spite,
Whispers of torment, lies, disdain,
And yet his spirit stayed the same.
Her love stood firm, her courage bright,
A guiding hand through darkest night.
She bore the weight, she braved the pain,
Her heart will never be the same.
But truth survives where lies have tread,
And justice waits to lift the dead.
Moments of childhood stolen fast,
The boy endures, his soul will last.
Fifteen years, a life misread,
But hope survives where light has led.
No rumor, headline, or false scene
Can dim the heart of fifteen.
So hear our vow, so strong, so clear,
The truth will rise, the end is near.
No chain, no lie, no twisted plan
Can break the boy, the innocent man.

If she is as straight as a die like they say she is, then the DNA samples in the Luke Mitchell case would have been handed over to the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission in 2013 when they requested them. No hesitation. No obstruction. Just full cooperation. Instead they stonewalled.
And after being presented with 25,000 public signatures calling for an independent review of Luke’s case, that review could have been approved. Because if there’s nothing to hide, independent scrutiny shouldn’t be a threat. It was not even read.
If she wants the Scottish Public to believe she’s not corrupt and is as straight as a die she can put an end to this case, and the misery and, hand over the samples for up to date testing - as a minimum. @COPFS @ScotGovFM @scotgov

Luke Mitchell is effectively being treated as a political prisoner.
The current Lord Advocate, Dorothy Bain, is married to Alan Turnbull, the prosecutor who led the case that secured Luke Mitchell’s conviction. Although Alan Turnbull may have stepped away from active involvement to allow her appointment, she now holds ultimate authority over decisions connected to cases prosecuted during his tenure.
Even if no formal rule has been breached, the appearance of a conflict of interest is unavoidable. Public confidence in the justice system depends not only on fairness, but on the clear and visible absence of bias. When the chief legal officer of the country is responsible for decisions relating to cases in which her spouse played a central role, that confidence is inevitably damaged.
This is why the structure itself must be questioned. The dual role of the Lord Advocate — as both head of prosecutions and a member of government — raises serious constitutional concerns. Many legal commentators have argued that the position should be separated from government to safeguard prosecutorial independence.
Beyond legality, there is also the issue of principle. Public office carries a moral responsibility as well as a legal one. Where a situation gives rise to a clear and ongoing perception of conflict, the ethical course of action is to remove oneself from decision-making or to reform the structure that allows such conflicts to arise. If the justice system is to command trust, those at its highest levels must be seen to act not only within the rules, but in a way that upholds the highest moral standards.
This is not about personal animosity. It is about integrity, transparency, and the public’s right to have absolute confidence in Scotland’s justice system. As long as the Lord Advocate has a duel role there is no confidence.
