Adoption of FIBA rules would be a great thing for the NBA.
Injuries have almost doubled in the last 20 years in the NBA.
Casuals point to pace, analytics, and every other buzzword ESPN has told them. The reality is that pace is down since the 2019 season and in the last decade it’s remained largely unchanged, changing by ~ 1.5 possessions. MPG is also way down on a player by player basis and teams rest players more than ever.
There is two real issues that the data points to:
1. Less multi sport play/more early specialization. Widely linked to more injuries in athletes down the road. Unfortunately, there is too much money in youth specialization for this to change.
2. The NBA rulebook allows for 4-5x the explosive plays in today’s game because of freedom of movement. The easy solution to this is universal adoption of FIBA. The bandaid is elimination of defensive 3 seconds.
Great stuff for baseball coaches and players. Spend less time on tees and machines and more time reading actual human beings trying to throw it past you. Avoid practicing hitting the same predictable speed and location over and over. Problems > Reps
The machine gives reps.
A pitcher gives you problems to solve.
Repetitions build proficiency in that environment. Problems build the ability to solve in any environment. Those are not the same thing.
You can’t solve tomorrow’s problems with yesterday’s practices.

Matt Zobrist was very impressive tonight. Doing it from behind the arc and in the mid-range game! This was the Matt Zobrist everyone expected at Bradley last year.
If he can play at this level all year for Belmont…WATCH OUT!
Ready to watch some former @MetamoraBBB players in college soon!
Matthew Zobrist in action at Duke tonight!
Great challenge for us as coaches working with the younger kids. Smaller group of 3rd/4th graders and a large group of 5th/6th graders.
Developing a love of the game and using low rims & smaller balls to allow for more success with the weak hand & better shooting mechanics.
Replying to @MetamoraBBB
@MetamoraBBB and @JustinDehm working with our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade travel basketball teams for some preseason skill development every Tuesday for the next month! We love seeing our future Redbirds in the gym having fun and getting better at basketball!

Really appreciate @joehoopsreport and his coverage of @MetamoraBBB.
Even though we are outside of the Chicagoland area, he always writes great stuff about our team and helps get our players names out to college coaches.
My wife might disagree that I’m “young” lol
Best of the best in coaching — from the best coach outside the Chicago area to the best young coach in the state (from central Illinois) to the most underrated coach and several more in a look at some of our state’s best coaches.

Over the last seven seasons, Illinois has cut its midrange share by nearly two-thirds. The Illini went from 69th to 7th among high-majors in three-point share.
Great teams are chasing high-value shots 👇
For youth athletes, this will enhance your skills and translate to games far better than the stuff you constantly see kids and trainers post on social media.
Self-exploration/development and pickup/free play games are much better for your development in middle and high school.
Self-exploration is the foundation for skill development but unfortunately it has become removed from the process.
Self exploration allows players to own movement solutions instead of only executing a predetermined move or moves.
It enhances feel over form.
It turns failure into information.
It focuses on variability which impacts adaptability.
Teaching will always matter.
Self exploration is never meant to replace teaching but it must be involved in the development process.

Great example of how current training in all sports strips away the creativity and problem solving that players can discover on their own.
@JOYofthePEOPLE read his book, half way through and I am cheering for those kids!

Somewhere along the way, basketball became something players train for individually. It’s not tennis. There are nine other players on the court. Learn the nuances of the game instead of constantly working on dribble moves against nobody. So much time is wasted in empty gyms.
