This is the story of professional football’s most persistent ghost.
The story of a man who has carved out a 12-year career as a pro punter without ever appearing in an NFL game.
He’s existed on the margins of the league for one very specific reason: his left foot.
He is proof that extraordinary careers can unfold entirely in the shadows. And the dream isn’t dead yet.
This is the story of Brock Miller.

Jets rookie DT Darrell Jackson Jr. currently ranks 3rd among qualified iDL with an 11.4% run stop rate (min. 100 run defense snaps).
Jackson has recorded 13 run stops and has yet to miss a tackle this season (20 total tackles, 0 missed).
11 of those run stops have come in the last 4 weeks.
He also has 4 pressures, a sack, a QB hit, and 2 batted passes over his last 3 games.
David Bailey has played a ridiculous 95.5% (127 of 133) of Jets defensive snaps over the last two weeks.
He played 97.1% of snaps in Week 6 and 93.8% in Week 7.
The last time a Jets DL/EDGE played 90%+ of defensive snaps in a game was Leonard Williams in Week 15 of the 2018 season.
Williams played all 53 (100%) of the Jets’ defensive snaps in a 29-22 loss to the Texans.
The Jets defense ranked 23rd/26 teams in EPA/play allowed in Week 7.
24th in EPA/pass allowed and 18th in EPA/rush.
The Jets blitzed Malik Willis 42.9% of the time, the 3rd highest rate in Week 7 and he made them pay.
Willis completed 10-of-13 passes for 176 yards and a TD vs the blitz.
When NOT blitzed, Willis was just 4-of-8 for 32 yards.
Amazingly, the Jets had a higher pressure% when NOT blitzing: 53% vs 45%, although Willis’ Time to Throw of 3.45s when NOT blitzed was 2nd highest in the NFL this week.
Basically if the Jets didn’t blitz Willis, he had an eternity to throw. When they did blitz him, Miami diced up the Jets defense.
Glenn/Jets had no solution for a Miami passing attack that ranked 32nd in the NFL in EPA/pass entering the week.
The Jets offense actually ranked 2nd among all NFL teams in Week 7 with an average EPA/play of 0.22, behind only the Bengals.
They averaged the 4th highest YPA (9.57) and the 7th highest YPC (5.14).
And yet they scored just 25 points. Left a lot of potential points on the field.
Garrett Wilson has been targeted just 9 times over the last two weeks.
It’s the fewest times he’s been targeted in a 2-week span since Weeks 6-7 of his rookie season.
Some players with the same # of targets as Wilson in this timeframe:
• KeAndre Lambert-Smith (one game)
• Xavier Hutchinson
• Ryan Flournoy (one game)
• Jalen Nailor
Some historic Omar Cooper Jr. stats:
• 1st player in NFL history to record 100+ rec yards and a rec TD in consecutive games within his first three career games
• 1st player in more than 40 years with multiple games of 100+ rec yards and a TD within his first 3 career games
• Just the 6th player since the 1970 merger with consecutive 100-yard rec yard within his first 3 career games
• His 248 receiving yards are the most by any Jet through his 1st three career games since the merger. They rank 25th-most in the NFL over that span since 1970 (again be played one single drive in one of those games)
• He’s the first Jets rookie with consecutive 100-yard receiving games since Al Toon in 1985
• WILDEST: His 5.06 yards per route run ranks No. 1 among 166 NFL receivers with 10+ catches this season. Even crazier, it’s the highest YPRR by any receiver through his first three career games since the stat began being tracked in 2016.
A ridiculous start to his NFL career.
Armand Membou and Olu Fashanu have fully stabilized over the last 4 weeks.
Membou is PFF’s 9th highest graded OT and their 5th highest graded run blocking OT since Week 4.
Fashanu has allowed 9 pressures over the last 4 weeks and is PFF’s 20th highest graded pass blocking OT (67 qualifiers).
Membou has allowed 8 pressures, one sack, and one penalty.
The Jets have a very good young OT duo and don’t let anyone convince you they don’t.
Harrison Phillips has struggled mightily for the Jets this year, and Jowon Briggs sneakily has as well.
Phillips is currently PFF’s 102nd ranked iDL out of 126 qualifiers. Briggs ranks 114th.
The two have combined for a 6.7% pressure rate and have missed nearly 13% of their tackle attempts.
Briggs’ 37.4 PFF run defense grade ranks 123rd out of 136 qualifiers.
A big reason why the middle of the Jets defense feels so soft right now.
(there’s context but) as a comparison, here are some Breece Hall numbers from Weeks 1-3:
• Rushing yards: 163 (23rd/41)
• Yards per carry: 3.2 (35th)
• Yards after contact: 114 (24th)
• Missed tackles forced: 12 (8th)
• 10+ yard runs: 5 (13th)
The Jets running game as a whole has performed *significantly* better over the last month.
Braelon Allen ranks among all NFL RBs from Week 4-7:
• Rushing yards: 357 (2nd)
• Yards per carry: 4.96 (5th)
• Yards after contact: 297 (1st)
• Missed tackles forced: 24 (2nd)
• 10+ yard runs: 14 (1st - 4 more than any other player)
• First downs: 19 (4th)
Has legitimately been one of the best RBs in the NFL since taking over the starting role.

Jets Humiliated by Dolphins as Aaron Glenn Seals His Fate - Postgame Show! xitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1RJjpbmVP…
It all adds up.
Didn’t use a TO at the end of the 1st half so they forfeited a scoring opportunity.
Missed a FG. Didn’t score a TD from 1st and goal at the 1.
Football games are won in the margins and the Jets consistently lose there. Every week. Without fail.
The Jets are at a schematic disadvantage and a coaching/game management disadvantage every week.
Hard to win consistently in the NFL when that’s the case even if the roster is talented and the offense is explosive.
(tweeting during the game here but) even if the Jets find a way to come back and win this game the point still stands.
The coaching has been a hindrance today, not an advantage.
And that tends to be the case for the current iteration of this team/staff.
