Dream killers…The cell phone problem is real! Especially so for aspiring athletes…Really anyone with serious goals. It is estimated the average phone screen time amongst high school students is over 4 hours per day. A significant amount north of 6 hours, and some students have more than 12 hours of phone time in 24 hours.
Note: many students had over 16 hours a weeks on JUST ONE SOCIAL MEDIA APP alone! This means they gave away 2 months of their life, per year, at that rate to their phone.
4 hours a day equals 28 hours a week. That’s 1.17 days. Multiplied by 52 weeks in the year comes to 60.84 days a year, or two months. And if that isn’t bad enough, that data is based on the 24 hour day…not based on a 16-18 hour ‘awake’ time per day.
Some schools don’t allow cell phones in class because of this reason. What are some other solutions? Or do we just leave it up to the individual to figure out?
Could add a few from Connecticut to the list. Hope there’s a way up from here. I also think you can take out softball and add many sports and it still be true:

Culture doesn’t change all at once.
It moves one choice at a time.
Ownership or excuses.
Effort or checking out.
Communication or blame.
Team-first or ego.
Every choice moves your culture.
Choose above-the-line behaviors.

Talent gets you there.
Process keeps you there.
Nick Saban said it best:
“You must focus on the things that have made us good all season long.”
Championship teams don't chase the moment.
They live the process.

After 30+ years of coaching, I’ve learned this:
The things that matter most usually aren’t X’s and O’s.
Players over plays.
Relationships first.
Culture every day.
Keep it simple.
Trust your players.
Protect family time.
Coaching teaches you a lot.
Keep Learning.

Elite players…compete with joy, not fear.
Fear focuses on what could go wrong. Joy comes from trusting your preparation, embracing the opportunity to compete, and remembering that the game is a gift.
Play with confidence, gratitude, and the freedom to give your very best.
