Turns out, seniors spend almost THREE WEEKS a year outside of their home to get healthcare. Think about how burdensome that is for them?! Moreso, 11% of all seniors spend 50 days or more...crazy. When we think about aging in place, this is why care in the home is so critical...

Talked to a health insurance exec at a brunch this AM. Asked him for some off the record thoughts on working with startups and what he really thought of pilots. He said “It’s so cute that they think we’re serious. We just do them so our staff doesn’t get bored.”

We straight up need more home healthcare solutions. It can’t be just outdated mom and pops, PE-backed rollups, Optum, Papa, Dispatch, and Signify. We need smart, yet humble people to prepare for the tidal wave of demand.

One of the best comments I heard today: we are in such a strange time in healthcare. We still send faxes but do surgeries using complete robotic functionality. It’s as if Fred Flintstone and George Jetson are trying to live together in the same house 🦖🤖

Thanks, Ashish. If Florida had California's per-capita death rate, about 11,000 Floridians who have died of Covid would be alive today. Worth remembering that when you hear the "Florida stayed open and still did well" canard.

Instead, its abrogation of other public health measures FL banning mask mandates and doing far less testing than CA Why? Because FL listening to @gbdeclaration "let it rip" clowns Which has thus caused enormous, unnecessary suffering and deaths for people of Florida Fin

The vaccinated are currently paying a price for the unvaccinated. #covid19 is surging again, with spillover to the vaccinated. Masks are coming back, because the honor system isn’t working. And our unvaccinated children & immunocompromised are at high risk from the Delta variant.

Again. Heartbreak. Anger. Hopelessness. How many more will have to die before we do something? I believe most Americans are ready for meaningful action. And have been ready for a long time.

A year ago, @tomaspueyo blew us away with his the "Hammer and the Dance" metaphor for pandemic control. His new blog, Variants v. Vaccines, is another superb blend of words & pics, helping us understand the nature of our high-stakes race to save lives. tomaspueyo.substack.com/p/va…

She..always..understood the value of data & models. Indeed, rigorous thinking becomes more, not less important in crazy times like these, when past experience offers little guidance about what we should be doing. But she also never forgot that economics is about people.
“It’s immensely reassuring to know that economic policy will be made by someone who knows what she is doing,” writes @PaulKrugman of Janet Yellen nyti.ms/3lcZEDX

In Nov. 2008, it took about two hours for GSA to determine that Obama was the winner. What's happening now isn't normal - and it ultimately hurts the American people. From my discussion with @brikeilarcnn on @CNN

Wow….stunning economic cost. This sure justifies making as much testing as we need and vaccines free so we can go focus on re-creating jobs and GDP.
Replying to @LHSummers
We estimate the cost of the COVID virus for the US. Bottom line cost: $16 trillion. This is $200,000 per family or 90% of a year’s GDP. 2/13

No nation has a vaccine -- the difference btwn the high US death rate vs others' low #covid19 spread & ability to reopen is the implementation of public health policies, which this Admin. has failed to do. Always great to discuss health care w/ @ASlavitt: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

When I saw "Secret Service" trending & read first tweet on Trump's joy ride around Walter Reed, I thought, "This has got to be a joke." But nope, it's real. So massively irresponsible. And another reason to question whether he is capable of making sound decisions at this time.
