According to Christian Sandström, docent at Chalmers, the company is seriously mismanaged and lacks the ability to survive, despite the decision to lay off a quarter of the workforce today. Sandström warns that Northvolt does not have the technical competence required to run battery production on its own. Instead, the company functions as an empty brand, mainly dependent on technology from China – technology that is also three decades old and outdated. The problems at the plant in Skellefteå are profound.
