Proud to report that the 2nd Marauder is in the water and running under its own power out of our yard in Franklin, Louisiana. The team really stepped up across the board - this hull took 8% fewer labor hours than the 1st. That’ll continue to get better, every build needs to be more efficient than the last. When we took over this shipyard it was shutting down and capacity was trending towards 0. Today it's is active again + expanding. Fully ramped we’ll do 20 Marauders a year in Franklin. Thanks to everyone @Saronic for their hard work getting this done.

Bridgit Mendler of @NorthwoodSpace says the builders of the early internet bet on a direction without knowing exactly what it would become, and the space industry is in that same moment now: "For folks that were early with the internet, there's no way they would've foreseen what the internet is today. But they were betting on a direction... and look what we have today." "I think we're in a similar moment with the space industry where we don't know what is going to be built. A year ago today, would we think that everybody would be talking about orbital data centers? No way." "But it's captivated the public imagination and who knows what's gonna come next... The whole thing that we're about is taking companies further faster. Taking space missions further faster." "If you analogize to the internet, you have a couple of kind of platform infrastructure plays that really wind up becoming enmeshed across the internet... There are a few that wind up becoming really influential and fundamental." "Cloud is one that we analogize to a lot and we are inspired by. And we wanna be one of those companies." @BridgitMendler
Today, Northwood is announcing a $375M Series C. In February of 2024, less than three years ago, we announced Northwood as a small six-person team. We’ve grown a lot, but the goal stays the same – solve connectivity between Earth and space to take missions further faster. The world is hungry for more data movement through space, and that is what we're building for, with scalable network capacity for the most challenging use cases. We are proud to add new partners to our cap table and continue the journey with existing ones as we enter this new chapter. Thanks to @a16z @DFJvc @WashingHarbour Alpine Space Ventures @stepstone and many others. Read more: northwoodspace.io/blog/north…

It's hard to believe it's been less than two years and nine months since we first announced Northwood as a small team of six. Today we are announcing a $375M Series C. Griffin, Shaur, and I founded the company on the premise that the demand for data through space would grow exponentially and the industry needed a fundamentally new approach to ground infrastructure to support that. We are still early innings in this story and grateful for our capital partners joining in this next chapter. Two years after selling @flyAerodome to @flocksafety, I’m leaving it in good hands. Thanks to Flock, drones provide air support for 911 calls around the country. Next, I'm joining @a16z as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence. There has never been a better time to build for America 🧵

This year has been a busy one for Northwood! We’ve announced and deployed two product lines across multiple continents, we’ve tripled in headcount, we’ve contracted with new customers and deepened engagements with existing ones. There is so much to do and we are just getting started. Grateful for the partnership of @a16z and @dfjgrowth and substantial follow-on investment from @washingharbour Alpine Space Ventures @stepstone and others in our 300M equity raise and @HSBCInnovation for joining with us for a 75M debt financing. Let’s go build!

We’ve backed Northwood since the seed, when they were a six-person team with an idea. Now they’re on multiple continents. Thrilled to continue backing the Northwood team as they solve connectivity between Earth and space, taking missions further faster. 🇺🇸🚀💪

Robert and I are thrilled that our gift of over 2 million shares of SpaceX stock will be distributed to children’s Trump accounts in December!   Our initial gift (shares transferring to escrow as we speak) will go to 11 to 17-year-olds who live in zip codes with median family income (MFI) of $57,000 or less, and to those who live in zip codes with too few residents for an MFI to be reported in the census. These families should receive a notice by Monday.    In a few weeks, an additional gift will be finalized for eligible 11 to 17-year-old children in military families serving overseas, children in foster care, and more children whose MFI is $90,000 or less living in counties near our home in the great state of Texas.   Thank you to the incredible team @SpaceX, @Treasury, @IRS, @DellFdn, @GreaterHorizons, @InvestAmerica24, and the legal firms of Morgan Lewis and Gibson Dunn for working over the past few months to make this happen.   We are deeply grateful for the groundbreaking work that Brad Gerstner @altcap and @MichaelDell have done for the long-term financial security for millions of kids.   God Bless America!

Chris Power of @HadrianInc says in wartime simulations, the US runs out of munitions in about a week, and it takes 2-3 years to restock: "Out of every war game we run, we run out of munitions and missiles, whatever, in like six to seven days. And then it takes about two to three years to refill that battery of, 'Hey, you now have more missiles to shoot.'" "Every single war basically, if it goes hot, both sides throw everything they've got at each other over a time period. And it's basically then if it gets protracted, how fast can you reconstitute?" "We shoot all our missiles in one week and then we have none for two years. That is how kind of terrible the situation is." "The only thing we can do is focus on, honestly, attritable systems, because if you kill a carrier and they've got that range, there's nothing we can do about it." "A lot of attritable mass... We basically blow everything in the seven days. We got to have the manufacturing battery to be able to refill the clip extremely fast." @2112Power (September 2025)

Brian Schimpf of @AndurilTech on why industrial production is a deterrent in itself, and why technological superiority alone won't win a war: "These wars are protracted, they are industrial in scale, and if you were to bring it down to one variable, the amount of kilograms that you can throw at each other turns out to probably be the single most important factor." "I think the technical superiority is a huge advantage. We're not gonna just outproduce China on like dumb ammunition, right? Like that clearly we have to have an edge around our space capabilities, how we can sense, how we can confuse them, how sophisticated our weapons are." "But I think the part that got so clear outta Ukraine was that industrial production has a deterrence factor... it is critical for winning a conflict." "When most of the war games with China show that we'd be out of munitions in... like eight days, that's not a deterrence factor really anymore." "I think the belief for a long time was that [technological superiority] was sufficient, but a low number of really exquisite weapons is not gonna win a conflict." @SchimpfBrian (September 2025)
