My sister called me one afternoon and asked if I could send her $60. She said she needed to pay for her daughter’s school books before the next morning. I sent it. The following day, she called to thank me. I asked if she had bought the books. She said yes. A week later, I visited her house and noticed her daughter was unusually quiet. I asked her what was wrong. She said, “Mom said I have to wait until next month for my books.” I looked at my sister. She immediately said, “Don’t start.” I asked, “What happened to the $60?” She said she had used it for something else and planned to replace it before I found out. I wasn’t angry about the money. I was angry because she had used her daughter to make me feel guilty enough to send it. I told her that. She got furious. “You think I’m a bad mother because I borrowed $60?”
