As High Sheriff this evening I attended a reception at the Hungarian Consulate marking the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution. A lovely speech by the Lord-Lieutenant mentioning her family connections and we heard from some of those who made new lives here. @GMLO_UK

These young people are an absolute credit to #Wigan Borough. As Lord Lieutenant Youth Committee members they consulted their peers, listened carefully, expressed their views clearly and thoughtfully, and engaged with one another with maturity and respect. @GMLO_UK

Tonight as High Sheriff I attended the Hindu Navaratri Festival in Wythenshawe. It was an amazing event attended by all generations and is organised by volunteers. It was evening five of the nine nights of festivities and up to 1000 people attend each evening. @GMLO_UK

It was a privilege and joy to represent His Majesty's Lord Lieutenant for Greater Manchester @GMLO_UK at the 723 Wigan Royal Air Force Air Cadets graduation parade. Our Cadets are marvellous young role models and a credit to their community. Congratulations to all!

A pleasure as High Sheriff to attend the Pride of Tameside Awards this evening at Dukinfield Town Hall and to present the Special Recognition Award. Also delighted that one of my chosen charities this year Willow Wood Hospice won in their category.

This morning as High Sheriff I visited Milnrow Cricket Club for a training session for children organised by Child Safety Media at which they met various agencies including GMP, Transport Police, Metrolink, Victim Support & Rochdale’s Environment Team to talk about safety.

Yes Duncan, my wife Elaine and I fondly remember your father Sandy. We often think of him and quote his comments! Professional and a stickler for achieving the best possible outcome for Heritage. Sandy is part of the Monastery history and story. You should feel immensely proud.

As High Sheriff of Greater Manchester this evening I, and my consort Sharman Birtles MBE DL, enjoyed the opening night performance of a new play by Martin Paul Roche at Millgate Arts Centre produced by Saddleworth Players. A superb evening enjoyed by a packed house.
