Logistics UK estimates Brexit cost UK £11.7bn a year in lost exports, goods exports by tonnage are 20.7% below 2016, EU export volumes are down 15.9%.
And European Movement UK survey finds 98.2% of the businesses it surveyed advocate returning to the Single Market.
@andyburnham ffs sort this out

Brexit. The gift that keeps on taking.
For over a century British and Irish citizens haven't needed a passport to take a ferry between GB and Ireland.
That changes on 28 September. From that date, Stena Line and Irish Ferries will not allow anyone on board without a passport or national ID card

🚨 BRITAIN IS IMPORTING MORE EGGS FROM HENS KEPT IN CAGES WE BANNED HERE
LookoLook at what has happened to UK egg 🥚 imports. In the first 5 months of:
🥚 2024: 0.1m dozen shell eggs came from outside the EU
🥚 2025: 6.9m dozen
🥚 2026: 11.5m dozen
@Poultry_Network says Ukraine 🇺🇦 is by far the largest non-EU supplier, accounting for 9.3m dozen of those imports in the first 5 months of this year.
And here’s the bit consumers need to understand.
Most Ukrainian eggs are produced by hens kept in conventional cages 🔥 a system that has been banned in Britain and the EU since 2012.
Picture it.
We tell a British egg farmer:
❌ You cannot keep your hens in those cages.
✅ Invest in higher-welfare systems.
✅ Carry the additional British production costs.
Then we open the door to millions of imported eggs produced using the very cages we prohibited British farmers from using.
And much of this food disappears into catering and food manufacturing, where consumers may have little idea about its origin or production system.
Now UKHSA is investigating a Salmonella outbreak involving 207 confirmed cases, 38% hospitalised and one death, which may be linked to imported eggs. There is currently no evidence British-produced eggs are affected.
We do not yet know which country produced the eggs suspected in that outbreak.
But Britain’s rapidly increasing dependence on eggs produced to standards we would not accept on British farms demands scrutiny.
Don’t ban British farmers from producing food one way and then import the same food produced that way somewhere else.
🇬🇧 Food security. Food safety. Food standards. They are all connected.
@andyburnham @labourlewis @fionaharvey
🚨 One dead. Hundreds sick. 38% hospitalised.
UKHSA is investigating a Salmonella outbreak involving 207 confirmed cases which may be linked to imported eggs.
The Food Standards Agency says:
“There is no evidence that UK-produced eggs are affected.”
And where were the suspected imported eggs mainly being used?
Restaurants, cafés and catering establishments.
The Brexit promise to escape EU regulations always meant dangerously lower food standards. Traceability and border controls protect the public.
Consumers cannot Buy British when they aren’t even told the origin of ingredients used in the food they are served.
Brexit Britain has weaker import controls and we have pursued cheaper global food imports. This is destroying food security and putting lives at risk.
Food security means food safety too.
We should be strengthening British food production and demanding robust equivalence and verification from imports, not treating food regulation as an inconvenience to trade.

"Dr Hoxhaj says Brexit has impacted the amount of time it takes UK law enforcement agencies to obtain information from European counterparts.
He said: "One of the biggest issues that law enforcement agencies are struggling with is to identify people who have been involved in drug smuggling and other sorts of crime in parts of Europe when they arrive in the UK.
"Now it takes double the time when we used to be part of the EU to get the data and information, and that puts pressure on tackling organised crime and how you identify them so it’s easier for them to move around."
As posted so many times this last decade Brexit was always going to mean (specifically on trade, as is my expertise, but not also on the movement of people)
"Taking Back Control"
to have *less* control ...
The UK was never going to have the extra ops capacity needed for life outside the EU/ECJ on the same levels of throughout

While at the same time we (Brexit) made it harder, constrictive & more costly to buy from our continent by resurrecting the regulatory/SPS & customs border controls against the EU27 that we already had & have against the rest of the world.
The UK does *unilaterally* & could more relax or remove these now needed UK/EU bilateral border controls against the EU27 & drop its import market standards, to help throughput (advantaging their exporters over our own ..& smugglers, getting rid of crap they cannot sell on the, higher market standards, EU27/EFTA4 market)
but while a WTO member the UK would also then need to do same against all (166) WTO members, under the MFN rule
'Worst we’ve known’: UK turns to imports as drought and heat hit vegetable crops.
Food insecurity and higher prices would follow. Poor hit the hardest.
Despite warnings, no plan for water shortages. Need reservoirs, water storage, better water management

As I've tweeted so many times this last decade. Brexit meant resurrecting regulatory & customs borders/hardest of barriers to trade against EU27 to add to those the UK has against rest of world. These barriers mean higher costs for less choice.
Only way to offset this is to lower or remove (import) market standards & controls. This also means harder border controls against UK (reducing UK exports) to reflect the crap on the UK market,
which could flow back to the market (EU/EFTA) with higher standards

I wonder how long before enough of the British public realise Brexit will always cost more for *less* access to their continent & its produce (without any equal compensation elsewhere) behind their chosen, still descending, Gammon Curtain..and demand a return to EU club membership ?

🚨 The Times Business Pages: The UK has lost £74 billion in goods exports since Brexit.
Key sectors like cars, pharmaceuticals and advanced manufacturing have been hit hardest.
Exporters say the new trade barriers have made things significantly harder.
British food exports are down 22% (£4 billion)
Food is one of Brexit’s biggest losers: more red tape, lost EU markets, and cheaper imports undercutting our farmers.
Ten years on, the data continues to show a clear net loss, not the global trading powerhouse we were promised.
