A US citizen claimed she was detained by ICE for nearly two days after returning from a trip to Turkey, alleging she was held at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and transferred to a DHS facility.
In reality, surveillance footage and records showed Sundas “Sunny” Naqvi was never detained by ICE or jailed; instead, she checked into a Hampton Inn near the airport, stayed for several days enjoying spa treatments, gym access, and free food, while sending texts about using a card for expenses and being spotted at a gas station.
Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt has now filed a $1 million federal defamation lawsuit against Naqvi, Morrison, and others, citing reputational harm from the fabricated story backed by hotel records, texts, and video evidence.
