If we make the datacenters foot every cent of their marginal connection requirements should we be surprised that in turn they choose to build de minimus transmission so that their marginal generation becomes a natty ct or recrip? If you want grid connection and this is more expensive than the other option might need to share some costs on that.
In the rush to build data centers, companies are starting to use their own off grid gas generators. This results in much higher emissions – 60% to 80% – compared with using their local electricity grid and risks locking in longer-term fossil dependence.

A study of 60 cities finds that permit waits explain 30% to 43% of the gap in completion times between slow and fast cities. A 2026 study of LA lots found that buyers pay a 50% premium for land that already has permits.

We lost Paul Wellstone 24 years ago today. Paul was a tremendous leader who reminded us what it means to stand up to corporate power and stand with our fellow Minnesotans. So, when they try to divide us, remember that we all do better when we all do better.

We know public meetings are disproportionately attended by a certain kind of meeting-inclined person; interesting proposal here to allow broader behavioral data to meet public input requirements:
🚨 Updated version of Transportation for the Abundant Society (with Jonathan Levine) now posted. It’s our answer to the question, what does “abundance” mean in the context of transportation policy? We think it’s distinct from domains like housing. Feedback welcome.

Clean energy projects shouldn't have to worry about political interference every step of the way. Projects need certainty, not political games.

Hot take: A stable block of non-polarized voters that have truly no idea what is happening in politics and don't see that knowledge as personally defining, but still show up to vote based on their lived experience, are essential to a functional democracy.

Is it a "revolving door"-type conflict of interest that this campaign to block permitting reform in order to preserve more litigation opportunities is sponsored by a plaintiff's law firm that makes money by bringing these suits?
