For those of you who love comics, I've created a Substack: icritic.substack.com/?r=9m3f… This is a continuation of my old website The Comic Book Guy! Feel free to subscribe (apparently getting 10 subs is a huge milestone I need to reach).

Here’s the thing: they actually aren’t as boring as you think, and several of their movies are actually quite good. They are just taking a position that you don’t need certain things for a movie to be good and they’re gonna build their movies around that. And honestly, considering how great some of the movies were made under the haze code that might not be the limitation it sounds like.
Is this the most boring studio ever?

No, because the re-releases are supposed to get people excited about the new one, not less excited.
Between this, Avengers endgame Encore And The Angry Birds Movie re-release for Angry birds 3, might as well re-release Mike Myers' Cat in the Hat for the new one

In all fairness, Netflix could do this. They could delay their streaming release. They could expand the movie in theaters. They can play by the rules that everyone else does. They’re finally starting to do that, but they need to do better.
Regal Cinemas and Cinemark reportedly refusing to screen The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is devastating. Both chains are pushing back against Netflix’s two-week theatrical window before the film hits streaming. While I understand their position, I really hope @Netflix can find a compromise. I’m closely watching to see where @AMCTheatres stands in this dispute. @CEOAdam I’m genuinely worried about this film’s success. The marketing decisions have been unusual, and there have even been reports of creative tensions between David Fincher and Netflix surrounding the project. At the end of the day, I’m incredibly fortunate to live in Los Angeles, where I’ll get to experience the film in glorious 70mm at Quentin Tarantino’s @vistahollywood. Unfortunately, most audiences will end up watching it on a television or worse, an iPad or iPhone. A David Fincher film, written by Quentin Tarantino and starring Brad Pitt, deserves a proper wide theatrical release. I really hope both sides can work something out.

In all fairness, Netflix needs to negotiate in good faith with Regal and Cinemark. Thankfully, AMC has agreed to show the movie, but if Netflix wants to be serious about this, they’ve got to work with the theaters who have their own issues they’d like to see address.
🚨 BREAKING: Regal and Cinemark are reportedly refusing to screen Netflix’s The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, reducing its exclusive IMAX release to just 200 theaters nationwide. (via Puck News)

I remember it happened for "The Interview." Also a Sony movie, ironically enough.
Wait, studios can do this? I never knew that. When was the last time this kind of situation happened before

I do not want to watch an AI film and I will not willingly do so.
Furthermore... If you want to watch an AI film. You deserve it.

Good luck matching this one.
One of my personal favorites is the one given to The Powerpuff Girls Movie. Accurate given how closely the film follows its source material, but still amusingly worded regardless.

Actor Patrick Stewart dead at the age of 86. An iconic star of stage & screen. Countless roles in everything from Star Trek, X-Men, Dune, Exalibur, I Claudius, Conspiracy Theory & much more. A hugely charismatic actor with a great presence. Very sad news.

This is my own version of #LetterboxdFriday (though in spreadsheet form. This is probably my busiest movie month since May and June. This is why it's good to have multiple movie subscriptions if you see a lot of movies.

Well, I would love to say I would vote for Lord of the rings in truth I probably would have voted for in the bedroom.
What would’ve gotten your vote for the Best Picture Oscar of 2001?

Again, while I have to stress, I do not like this movie. I am happy that an NC-17 rated film has enough demand to keep it playing indefinitely.
You have spoken. KEN RUSSELL’S THE DEVILS is now available to play in theaters indefinitely β€” if it’s not playing near you, call your local theater and demand it. Get tickets now: thedevils.movie

I took my niece to this several years ago and well, she may have been a little too young for the movie. She loved the experience of the snow and everything.
I watched The Nightmare Before Christmas in 4D at the historic El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood! πŸŽƒπŸŽ„ Disney transformed the theater with immersive effects, including actual snowfall! They even have original set pieces from the film on display. Easily one of the coolest moviegoing experiences I’ve ever had!

It is a badge of honor to be blocked by someone who thinks the Mario movies are high art.

Ironically, I was blocked basically because I was doing what he was doing (though he seems to have an inner conflict about these movies himself).

Don’t be surprised if The Angry Birds Movie 3 becomes the Best Picture front runner soon. I think people are seriously underestimating how much this movie is going to connect with audiences including academy voters.
